Back button refreshing active threads every time?

So now the issue with the back button returning to random old pages seems to have been resolved, another even more annoying problem has arisen (at least for me.) Now every time I hit the back button after reading a thread, the previous page refreshes before I can click on anything. When I hit the back button it initially shows the non-refreshed page but I can’t select anything, and then I have to wait while it “blinks” and then takes me to the top of the refreshed page. I find this incredibly annoying for two reasons.

First, it adds time to the page loading. Just a second, I grant you, but when you are sitting there staring the screen and it happens every time it gets quite maddening after a while, even more so because for a moment I can see the page I want but can’t click on anything.

The bigger issue is that I end up losing my place, so to speak, in the page that lists the threads. My normal “routine” on MN is to click on Active Threads, do a quick glance over the thread titles to see what looks interesting, then start from the top clicking on the threads that interest me. Sometimes I spend a good deal of time on one thread, but I have the other ones in the back of my mind to look at next. Once I’ve worked my way down the page of listed threads, I go back to the top and refresh to see what new threads or updates have come in. Yes I spend way too much time on MN. But lately this doesn’t work— if I’ve read a thread and I hit the back button, I wait while it does the whole blink/refresh thing, and then all of a sudden I can’t find the threads I had wanted to read. I also can’t ever get the feeling that I’ve read the whole page, which is more irritating than you might think.

Is anyone else having this problem? MNTech, is this intentional or can it be fixed? In the past four months since all of this back button business began I find myself being frustrated more than enjoying MN. I’m hanging in for the moment in hopes of it going back to normal.

I’m using Safari on an iPhone 7 if that makes any difference.

Yes I have this identical problem. I am also using Safari on iPhone 6.

OllyBJolly · 17/04/2018 08:01

I'm getting the same - irritating!

AllThe888s · 17/04/2018 08:02

Me too, on an Android mobile using Firefox. But it's happening on my tablet with Chrome too. It's a pain.

Whymustyoubringinthebirds · 17/04/2018 08:02

Me too - on an iPhone also

Lucky you. I'm still getting the bacK button issue.

MarcellaBackland · 17/04/2018 08:04

So glad I’m not crazy! I was half expecting crickets :). Will MNTech always read Site Stuff or should I report the thread to flag it for them? And also how do I report? I can’t see a button for it.

Same OP. Safari on an iPhone.

ceecee32 · 17/04/2018 08:05

Ooops... back button takes me back to a different page which is not active threads as if I then click on active threads it is listed differently. Either way, I hate looking my place and threads that I wanted to read

Catzpyjamas · 17/04/2018 08:06

Lots of people having the same problem: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/site_stuff/3130581-Weird-behaviour-with-back-button-in-browser-anyone-else

Optimist1 · 17/04/2018 08:07

Me too! Chrome on laptop.

My current workaround is to right click on the the thread I want to read and open it in a new pane.

Tanaqui · 17/04/2018 08:11

Me too! And I feel exactly the same as you about it!

jellycat · 17/04/2018 08:15

Yes I have the same problem both on my laptop (Firefox) and phone (Safari).

CraftyYankee · 17/04/2018 08:16

Same here, Moto G5. And I read threads in the same way, down to being annoyed when a thread disappears from active and I can't find it among the thousand subtopics!

TraceyTech · 17/04/2018 11:50

Hi there,

So sorry this has been causing problems, the issue has been identified and fixed. This should stop happening now on active threads.

AuntFidgetWonkhamStrongNajork · 22/04/2018 18:56

Any update on the back button issue? I'm still going from Thread 2 to Thread 1 rather than Thread 2 to Active.

Hi

This has started happening again today for me. Safari on iPhone. It’s very annoying...
