Hi scotchpie,

Thanks for letting us know - we're taking a look for you but it's easier to deal with these issues in a private chat so we'll reply to your email rather than reveal our technological limitations on Site Stuff Blush

scotchpie · 30/03/2018 17:56

Floss,

I've not received an email from you? Is there a mix up with emails & usernames?

FlissMumsnet · 30/03/2018 19:48

Hi Again scotchpie sorry for any confusion at our end........
we always ask users to mail us at [email protected] so we can straighten things out off the boards.

It generally means we can get things sorted for you more easily.

Drop us a line at that email address and we'll take a closer look for you.

widdlytinks · 03/04/2018 09:14

Same thing happening here - have emailed!

FlissMumsnet · 03/04/2018 17:36

Oh no, sorry to hear that widdlytinks - thanks for emailing us and hopefully we can get this sorted for you asap.

In the meantime, sorry for the faff

scotchpie · 03/04/2018 23:46

Hi @scotchpie and @Wilberforce2, really sorry that you seem to be receiving the wrong notifications.

Our Tech team are looking into this right now - we'll be back with an update as soon as we can.

scotchpie · 05/04/2018 10:02

Really concerned his is now breach of data protection. Obviously someone else might be getting my notifications!

DawnMumsnet · 05/04/2018 22:16

Ah thanks, @Wilberforce2 - we've already seen your email so have all the relevant details. We've passed them to our Tech team who will hopefully be posting an update soon.

widdlytinks · 12/04/2018 15:31

Two more for me today, that aren't for me at all! 😀

SophieLMumsnet · 12/04/2018 16:58

Sorry about this, widdlytinks! and it wasn't a remotely connected username? If you could wing us a mail at: [email protected] (or report to us) - we'll take a look.

widdlytinks · 12/04/2018 17:51

It's part of a name I used to use - probably registered with actually - I'll email them through.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 12/04/2018 17:56

Oh dear.... This is pretty bad.

GinaCarbonara · 12/04/2018 18:01

But it's not really a breach of privacy is it, as it's still all on a public board. You could see their posts and vice versa just by browsing threads. It's not as if PM's are being wrongly notified.

Wilberforce2 · 12/04/2018 18:35

I'm with Gina I don't see how it is anything bad, my email told me that there was a new post on a thread I was following and all I could do was click through to read it. There wasn't any personal info or anything, it really hasn't bothered me!

HebeMumsnet · 17/04/2018 12:39

Hi everyone.

We've checked in again with Tech on this one. It looks like in the majority of these cases the person getting the mails not for them once owned the same name (or a very similar one) so that is what is causing it.

That feature was put in deliberately so that if, for example, you were famously known as MumsnetUser but changed after several years - if someone wanted to give MumsnetUser a coooeee over to a thread but didn't know you had name changed, they could still do that and you'd still get the mail. As the mail only takes you to the thread, as several of you have spotted, there's no risk of anyone's PMs or anything being seen. So we're going to leave things as they are for now. We know it's not completely ideal but is probably the best solution.

However, Scotchpie, this isn't the case with your name, as you know. It's clearly some kind of glitch but we don't yet know why it's happening. Tech are looking into it, though, and they will drop you a line whenever they have any news. Sorry not to be able to give you a firm answer right now.

scotchpie · 17/04/2018 20:07

Thanks MNHQ
