I can't reply to a message - please help

Hi MNHQ,

I received a message from someone and I can't reply to her. I just get a grey pop up box that is sometimes blank and sometimes says "prevent from showing additional dialogue" and the message won't send no matter what I do (check or uncheck the box, press OK etc etc)

I have tried sending both short messages and a few paragraphs in case there is a character limit but it doesn't make a difference.

Hopefully you can help?

Thanks

Hi @Gertrudethestag,

Sorry to hear you're having trouble replying to a PM. Can we just ask if you're using the desktop site, mobile or app?

We'll try to work out what's going wrong as soon as we hear back from you.

Gertrudethestag · 17/03/2018 14:07

Hi,

I am using an Android tablet but have tried both desktop and mobile versions of the website but neither works. I have only tried messaging one specific username so it could be a problem there?

Thanks

Is this someone you 'know' and have exchanged PMs with previously, Gertrude?

Or was it an entirely new, to you, PM? Might it have been a spammer? In which case MNHQ might have zapped them in the meantime.

And, it is possible to block PMs, so that person might have either blocked you - or blocked all PMs to them.

Gertrudethestag · 17/03/2018 14:31

Hi Pan, it was actually Sue [post edited to remove surname] from Mumsnet who messaged me about a thread I was on. Haven't been in contact with her before but wanted to reply.

It wasn't important but it is ever so slightly annoying that I can't reply Smile

MNHQers never have their surname in their MN username. That sounds rather odd.

PanPanPanPing · 17/03/2018 15:13

OK. Your previous post has now been edited to take out the surname. Are you talking about a PM or an email?

Perhaps someone from MNHQ could join this thread to explain what the OP's problem is?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 17/03/2018 15:19

I'm pretty sure MNHQ wouldn't PM either - they'd send an email

InterstellarSleepingElla · 17/03/2018 15:27

I agree to you would have been emailed - I have recently been in contact with someone from MNHQ and it was via email not by PM.

Gertrudethestag · 17/03/2018 15:35

Oooooh interesting! I'll delete and ignore then. It could have been a sneaky journalist! Luckily it wasnt anything confidential or sensitive just about returning to work. Weird!

Thank you for letting me know Smile

Hi again @Gertrudethestag - hold your horses! I'm going to send you a PM now as a test. Can you please see if you're able to reply to me?

In answer to the other posts here, MNHQ do occasionally send PMs - to competition winners, for example - so there's nothing dodgy going on here, honestly!

I'll be checking my inbox to see if I get a reply from you, Gertrude.

DawnMumsnet · 17/03/2018 17:47

Looks like it worked, @Gertrudethestag. Smile

Hopefully your reply to SueMumsnet will make it through as well.

Do let us know if not.

PanPanPanPing · 17/03/2018 17:48

I've had a few (nice!) PMs from an MNHQer ( at LornaMumsnet!). But the PM name is always

Mumsnet

So, for example, if Dawn was to send me a PM, I guess it would just say DawnMumsnet in my Inbox.

And Lorna's PMs have definitely come from LornaMumsnet!

So, to reiterate, I think it would be extremely odd to have a surname as well.

LornaMumsnet · 17/03/2018 19:57

Hey hey hey OP,

Can you try to send Sue a message as a completely new message?

So just copy and paste her username, enter a new subject line and start a new chain of PMs.

This sometimes works, so let us know...

Lorna that worked! All sorted now, thanks! How strange!

Glad it worked. Not too sure why it did, but pleased all the same... Wink

Give us a shout if there's anything else we can do!
