Adverts at the bottom of threads before posting box

On mobile site, safari. Really annoying, unpleasant place to put them. Double size of mid thread ads too. When you go to bookmark the last post it's easy to click on the advert by mistake (on purpose?) and when posting a comment you now have to click on post twice for some reason. Please could these horrible ads be moved back to mid thread and made a reasonable size? Thanks

They're awful on android too. Really, really bad MNHQ.

AnyFucker · 14/09/2017 06:53

Same here. Really cynical way to get you to click on them by accident

BoreOfWhabylon · 14/09/2017 06:57

Adblock Plus is your friend.

AdalindSchade · 14/09/2017 07:36

I've used Adblock before during the periods when mumsnet has 'technical difficulties' due to new ads but honestly I prefer to let sites keep their ad revenue. I'm going to turn it on now but I imagine I'll end up with a big white space where the ad was

They're dreadful!

AdalindSchade · 14/09/2017 15:33

MNHQ any word on this?
Thanks

Hi all,

So this is a new ad format that we're trying and as per the screenshot, that is how it's meant to be!

Sorry if it's annoying. It shouldn't be affecting usability but if it is, let us know and we'll hand this over to our adops team.

ItsTimeForDuggee · 14/09/2017 16:15

these adverts are awful they are far to big and they take up a lot of room on my phone screen!

Hi Lorna. It is affecting usability. Hence this thread Smile

AdalindSchade · 14/09/2017 19:24

Yeah it really is. They are intrusive and far too big. Please could you not?

OP posts:
BigGreenOlives · 14/09/2017 22:15

Why do I have to click on post twice? It's very annoying as I think I've posted & then discover I haven't. I'm using the mobile site on an iPhone.

AdalindSchade · 14/09/2017 22:18

Yes that happened at the same time as the massive ads

OP posts:
Bearfrills · 14/09/2017 22:24

Affecting usability here too. As you can see from the screenshot, nearly the whole screen is taken up by adverts, both moving too so extra annoying and extra rough on my battery life. I'm on an S6, latest operating system.

I completely understand that adverts are a necessary evil but these ones above the posting box are very intrusive and are definitely putting me off using the site, I haven't posted much at all since they were introduced because I can't be arsed with accidentally clicking on them all the time.

And to add to my battery comment, in the space of typing that and pressing post, my battery dropped from 66% down to 62% thanks to the huge animated advert above the posting box in addition to the animated advert at the top of the screen.

Top of the screen, yeah, fair enough. Slap bang above the posting box, nah thanks.

PurpleDaisies · 14/09/2017 22:29

It's really annoying because you can't read the latest posts on the thread because the ad is in the way. I'd say that affected usability.

BigGreenOlives · 15/09/2017 06:50

I hadn't thought about the moving ads affecting battery charge - I was surprised by how much my charge had gone down while using wifi at home. Do the moving ads also use more data? That would be annoying.

BigGreenOlives · 15/09/2017 06:50

Oh & the stupid pressing post twice thing nearly got me again. Grr.

AdalindSchade · 15/09/2017 19:32

PLEASE mnhq can you reconsider this? The ad loading makes the page jump about right after you post and it's just really awful.

OP posts:
QueenMortificado · 15/09/2017 19:33

Absolutely awful.

Affecting usability too. Hate it. Please switch them to underneath the text box!

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 16/09/2017 11:47

Hello everyone. Thanks for your continued feedback here. Just a quick update to say we've worked out the issue with double clicking on posts, which should be fixed next week. In the meantime, we're also looking closely at what can be done to minimise accidental clicking on the ads. We'll keep you posted on any developments.

BoreOfWhabylon · 16/09/2017 12:05

@poster YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet

I don't have this problem because I reluctantly installed Adblocker Plus a while ago due to the intrusive ads making MN unusable for me.

However, having seen the screenshots some users have posted on here, I don't see that your response in any way addresses their, to my mind, very valid concerns that their screens are now dominated with ads at the top and bottom with a very, very narrow space to actually view the thread posts.

BoreOfWhabylon · 16/09/2017 12:05

Gah! try again

Exactly.
