Hello there!

We would like to cordially invite you all to join us this coming Sunday, June 18, for a Great Get Together - in memory of the late Jo Cox MP, and in support of her family's organisation, More In Common, which aims to get us all to celebrate the things that unite us.

So whether you're reasonable or unreasonable, whether you have or have not Googled penguin bollards, and whether or not you think the OP should have cashed the cheque, we'd love to see you all here on Sunday around midday.

There will be PRIZES, chatting and amusing gifs (courtesy of AliceDMumsnet's 'solid gold gifs' folder). Please bring your best children's jokes, pictures of any kittens who have recently adopted you, and heartwarming stories of love and friendship across the divide (Netmums).

BYO booze. Folk dancing will not be tolerated in the shallow end.

(If you'd rather go to an event near you and meet other people face-to-face, check out the Great Get Together's listings of thousands of events across the UK here.)

Love
MNHQ

Very kind of you all, but that's not even touched the sides ... more please Grin

Eyes huge bottle of ouzo recently brought back from Greece ...

AutumnalLeaves38 · 18/06/2017 14:56

"...have some of my vintage Croatian liqueur...it'll cure everything for you"

Puzzled,
Can indeed testify that Sass is speaking the truth

Afraid RL duty calls, so I must (very drunkenly) depart this bonanza.

Will definitely return for the Disco later: what time do I need to slip into my gold sequinned hot pants?

To tide you over, I'm selflessly donating to the MN Massive my Tombola loot:
2 tins of Marrowfat Peas (suspiciously 1970s typeface on labels, no best before date), and a Corn Dolly from the Crafts Tent.

TressiliansStone · 18/06/2017 14:57

Favourite journey in the UK: London to Edinburgh by rail, timed to catch the setting sun glowing on Bamborough Castle.

Teatowelfairy · 18/06/2017 14:58

My day in 5words:
Hungover, poorly baby, calpol everywhere.

Favourite place in the UK:
Anywhere with a beach.
"Oh I do like to be beside the seaside......."

AdaColeman · 18/06/2017 14:58

Best place in the UK, without a doubt, Marloes Bay in Pembrokeshire.

(And as an extra, best journey, clanking over the railway bridge across the Tyne on my way to see my Grandmother in Newcastle.)

Puzzledandpissedoff · 18/06/2017 15:00

It's a lovely friendly town with a great beach and LOADS of pubs. What more could you want?

Even more pubs?? Grin Blush

And what's this about vintage Croatian liquer when it's at home ... ?

DawnMumsnet · 18/06/2017 15:01

Speaking of trains (well, two of you were)... time for a train joke.

A friend of mine always wanted to be run over by a steam train. When it happened, he was chuffed to bits Grin

SassynSane · 18/06/2017 15:02

Just drink it Puzzled and everything on the thread and indeed in the Universe will make sense...I guarantee it!

Good luck pulling sober off in RL Autumnal, catch you later!

SassynSane · 18/06/2017 15:03

Groaning....and Grin at the same time DawnMN

CarolineMumsnet · 18/06/2017 15:05

Dawn's been on the vintage Croatian liqueur I see. I'm enjoying mine drizzled atop a 99. Cheers!

TressiliansStone · 18/06/2017 15:06

GROOAAAAAN Dawn! Grin

AdaColeman · 18/06/2017 15:06

Puzzled Slice some strawberries in half, lay out on a plate, spoon over some ouzo, sprinkle with icing sugar, leave for an hour, devour. Easiest summer pud ever!

HerRoyalFattyness · 18/06/2017 15:08

I'm hiding in the lol from the kids. Shhhh! Someone pass me some cake please.

HerRoyalFattyness · 18/06/2017 15:09

Loo not lol

RowanMumsnet · 18/06/2017 15:09

Oh lawks teatowel that's a bad combination (poorly baby and hangover, I mean). Better not offer you any Pimms?

autumnal we'll be starting the disco at around 4pm and it will go on until the last MNer staggers out of the tent, so do feel free to reel back in later

Welcome froome and Geeky!

My favourite place in the UK: Dungeness - so weird but so beautiful. But lots of beaches in Pembrokeshire are not far behind. Very fond of Cotswolds villages (well you've got to really haven't you) and the Chilterns too.

Best place in the UK? Horniman museum and park. Fastastic views over London, band stand, the fat walrus prepared by the worst taxidermists. Lovely place for a glass of Pimms whilst the kids roll down a hill Smile.

^ I'll leave you with the brilliant Rainbow Dave's village fête dancing, and messages of peace & love Grin

(Somehow, I feel Jo Cox would wholeheartedly approve of his vibe xx).

Teatowelfairy · 18/06/2017 15:14

My DS1 once did the classic 'peer down the barrel of the Nerf gun while pulling the trigger to see what the blockage is'. With the usual results. (Thankfully he was fine)
Just snorted my Pimms Grin

This reminds me of my db many years ago. He booted his football up a tree. Db tried climbing said tree but couldn't reach the ball so decided to chuck a house brick up instead. Cue trip to a&e for head glued.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 18/06/2017 15:15

AdaColeman Well that's no ruddy good, is it?? Don't you realise I've just used the last of my strawberries on everyone's dessert?? I honestly don't know how you can do this to me ... (wails)

Oh well, looks like it's back to the ouzo and the pan galactic gargle blaster Croatian liquer

SassynSane · 18/06/2017 15:16

Awwww...Take That on the radio now...Greatest Day....ready, 1, 2, 3...

Today this could be the greatest day of our lives
Today this could be the greatest day of our lives
When the world comes alive...watch the world come alive tonight...

Awwww Easter Smile

RebeccaMumsnet · 18/06/2017 15:17

Best place in the UK that i've been to at least...
Lulworth cove - on a hot day, it looks like Greece

Roll up, roll up for the Great Mumsnet Get Together, Summer Fete, Garden Party, Disco and Barbecue
Puzzledandpissedoff · 18/06/2017 15:17

Paxillin is there a reason why that walrus looks so uncannily like a turd?? Grin

froomeonthebroom · 18/06/2017 15:18

Ds is currently on the trampoline with a beach ball that he has lovingly filled with water. What could possibly go wrong?

paxillin · 18/06/2017 15:20

It does, puzzled! Never noticed it, now can't unsee it. The taxidermists didn't know walrusses are supposed to be wrinkly, so they overstuffed it until smooth Grin.

SassynSane · 18/06/2017 15:20

RebeccaMN am with you there....best UK journey IMHO is boat from Swanage Pier to Poole Harbour...seeing the harbour and sandbanks is pretty spectacular, as is Old Harry Rocks....but the best bit was the dolphins playing with the boat....including a baby...yep...here in the UK...pure magic! Smile
