Hello there!

We would like to cordially invite you all to join us this coming Sunday, June 18, for a Great Get Together - in memory of the late Jo Cox MP, and in support of her family's organisation, More In Common, which aims to get us all to celebrate the things that unite us.

So whether you're reasonable or unreasonable, whether you have or have not Googled penguin bollards, and whether or not you think the OP should have cashed the cheque, we'd love to see you all here on Sunday around midday.

There will be PRIZES, chatting and amusing gifs (courtesy of AliceDMumsnet's 'solid gold gifs' folder). Please bring your best children's jokes, pictures of any kittens who have recently adopted you, and heartwarming stories of love and friendship across the divide (Netmums).

BYO booze. Folk dancing will not be tolerated in the shallow end.

(If you'd rather go to an event near you and meet other people face-to-face, check out the Great Get Together's listings of thousands of events across the UK here.)

Love
MNHQ

^ Seriously, though, the Great Get Together idea sounds a lovely way in which to honour Jo Cox.
Best of luck to everyone holding one of the events, big or small. Flowers

TressiliansStone · 17/06/2017 14:24

Ooh, lovely idea! Shall start planning an outfit now!

Covfefe · 17/06/2017 16:42

I'm here, but will sit quietly in the corner as I still have a hangover from last night. Virtual boozy get togethers are less painful than real ones.

A virtual glass raised to Joe Cox and her lovely family.

AdaColeman · 17/06/2017 16:48

I'm making some glittery gin and lime jellies to bring along, and a bucket of Pimms.

AutumnalLeaves38 · 17/06/2017 18:16

MNHQ,

Please, oh please, confirm Welly Wanging is happening at tomorrow's fête?
(My pivot game is strong). Wink

And the Garden On A Plate entry is coming on a treat, since you ask...

MrsHathaway · 17/06/2017 18:33

I've been warming up for the human fruit machine!

WhosTakingDeHorseToFrance · 17/06/2017 18:56

Please tell me someone is sorting the tombola?

CombineBananaFister · 17/06/2017 19:46

Bloody lovely idea :) Me and the small human are having a bit of a chillout, chat, and education about tolerance and differences anyway this weekend due to recent events nationally and the behaviour displayed towards a family and their son in his class at the school. Ties in nicely Grin

cardibach · 17/06/2017 19:46

I'm working all day tomorrow but it's a role when ch means I can join in. I'm also running a get together at 4. Can't tell you my role as it would be quite outing in conjunction with that info!

cardibach · 17/06/2017 19:46

Which not when ch

SassynSane · 17/06/2017 21:53

ChasedByBees · 17/06/2017 23:42

Ooh sounds good. I look forward to it.

SassynSane · 18/06/2017 08:50

Just caught end of Brendan Cox's interview on Radio 2...so moving...hope today is a huge success and my thoughts are firmly with Brendan and his children Flowers

herecomesthsun · 18/06/2017 10:59

We will be going along to a Get Together near us {smile]. The local Oxfam shop was holding a special fundraising effort for Jo Cox yesterday, because she worked for them for 6 years, with profits going to Syria. The homemade cake was very good.

Nice weather for it.

SassynSane · 18/06/2017 12:00

Taking myself off bunting duty...just stapled my thumb Sad (yep in actual RL...don't ask!)

JustineMumsnet · 18/06/2017 12:06

Hello all,

So... I now declare this Great Get Together, Summer Fete, Garden Party, Disco and Barbecue... open!

Just to remind you: this is our contribution to the Great Get Together, in memory of Jo Cox MP and her efforts to unite communities.

One of the best things about Mumsnet is how MNers from diverse backgrounds and different points of view congregate to share experiences, support, debate and jokes. As lots of you often remark, you can be arguing strongly with a poster on one thread while laughing along with them on another.

We know that so many of you have received incredible support from fellow MNers, helping you through everything from an enragingly bad day to serious illness and bereavement. We also think that the daily sharing of experience that's the bread and butter of Mumsnet gives our users a huge amount of insight into other people's lives and thoughts.

So today we will be jollying you all along to take part in spot competitions, chat along with us and celebrate everything that makes this community - and other communities in the UK - great. If you're out and about today attending another Get Together event, please take a picture or two and report back - we'd love to hear how everyone's day is going. If you're at home with the kids/a cuppa, we're here to keep you company.

And if you can't bear organised fun... AIBU is that way --> Grin

Whoever you are - newbie or a lurker, long-lost MNer poking her nose in, practitioner of yoni massage - we'd love you to party along with us today.

To get you started: we hereby demand that everyone who posts on this thread either...

a) tells us the worst, most nonsensical joke your child has ever made up
b) posts your favourite cute animal photo or gif, and/or
c) give us the story of your day so far in five words.

Did we mention there would be PRIZES?

Whatever you're doing - have a lovely day.

Thanks

Justine

DDs favourite ever made up joke fers a very mixed reaction (& gets me raised eyebrows...):

Q: Why did the chicken cross the road?
A: Because it wanted to be dead! ConfusedBlushGrin

RowanMumsnet · 18/06/2017 12:12

And to kick off the PRIZES: for a copy of Brendan Cox's book - we want your worst, most nonsensical child's joke please.

To get you in the mood, here's one from the estimable @KidsWriteJokes on Twitter:

A coconut on holday

Sassy Shock at your thumb - we'll let you off. Was it one of those big staplers?
