Hello there!

We would like to cordially invite you all to join us this coming Sunday, June 18, for a Great Get Together - in memory of the late Jo Cox MP, and in support of her family's organisation, More In Common, which aims to get us all to celebrate the things that unite us.

So whether you're reasonable or unreasonable, whether you have or have not Googled penguin bollards, and whether or not you think the OP should have cashed the cheque, we'd love to see you all here on Sunday around midday.

There will be PRIZES, chatting and amusing gifs (courtesy of AliceDMumsnet's 'solid gold gifs' folder). Please bring your best children's jokes, pictures of any kittens who have recently adopted you, and heartwarming stories of love and friendship across the divide (Netmums).

BYO booze. Folk dancing will not be tolerated in the shallow end.

(If you'd rather go to an event near you and meet other people face-to-face, check out the Great Get Together's listings of thousands of events across the UK here.)

Love
MNHQ

@paxillin

It does, puzzled! Never noticed it, now can't unsee it. The taxidermists didn't know walrusses are supposed to be wrinkly, so they overstuffed it until smooth Grin.

Puzzled I've got strawberry troubles too, I bought an extra box to make strawberry tequila, but now can't find the tequila so am swamped in strawberries.

Waves to Fatty, would you like chocolate brownies?

GeekyWombat · 18/06/2017 15:25

RowanMumsnet You get to use the edit button? You are powercrazed!

My favourite place in the UK is a random one. I did a lot of travelling around with work - Scotland, Ireland, Northern Ireland. I went to a tiny town in Scotland called Largs. It looks like an ordinary town, ordinary high street. From the station I walked past wetherspoons, post office, all that gubbins. And then suddenly it was the coast! Breathtaking and amazing and just jaw dropping.

I only went once employers were closing the office sadly but it was the happiest day of my working life. It smelled like the sea. The weather was glorious. I even found an incredible ice cream shop. I've never gone back because I worry it can't be as amazing as I remember and coming up from London to be disappointed would be too much to bear.

Best place in the UK - the Lake District - particularly around Coniston. The kind of landscape, to quote the late Douglas Adams, that makes you want to burst into spontaneous applause!!

Technological failures, crazy kitten snuggles

Ooh I never usually win anything! How thrilling! Though suspect sympathy vote re sitting groggily on tram floor ...

Favourite place in the UK is Loch Shin at Lairg.

Am now at 6th birthday party. Entertainer is Jedi. There is also a 6'6" stormtrooper. It's reasonably surreal.

ElizaDontlittle · 18/06/2017 15:28

Oh - here is that kitten!

NEW COMPETITION: for a large box of chocolates... DISCO TIME! we're now entering the disco phase, and will be handing over to MNers - to enter the comp, please just post up a link to your favourite song by a UK artist.

If you just want to boogie, post up any old song you please.

We'll be popping in and out for the rest of the thread, but just want to say thanks Flowers to everyone who's taken part. Sorry about that business around the cheese-rolling area; we'll be getting the clean-up operation in ASAP.

Afternoon all. I'm rocking in late after spending no less than spending 1.5 hours filling an 8ft brand new pool in the garden for my four year old to declare after 20 mins she's too cold and can she watch Moana.

My favourite place ever has to be a placed called Froggetts ridge in Derbyshire. It's bloody gorgeous. Views for miles around and one of the nicest walks ever.

For journeys, I live on the edge of the Peak District so any of the trips out to Bakewell, Crich, Matlock bath all result in gorgeous scenery.

ElizaDontlittle · 18/06/2017 15:53

TressiliansStone · 18/06/2017 16:36

Something to boogie to...

"There Will Never Be Another Tonight" = Bryan Adams

GeekyWombat · 18/06/2017 16:44

Yay thank you so much! I can't believe Largs has brought joy second time round ;) (although now I'm looking up MN scarves!).

GeekyWombat · 18/06/2017 16:48

I'm going summery low brow for my music choice...

Also, not wanting to be the person pissed on Pimms in the corner, but this thread has been fun and the wider implications of what Brendan Cox has been trying to do to remember Jo are really lovely and very awesome. The fact that one of my favourite places on the internet did something to recreate it is just brilliant!

TressiliansStone · 18/06/2017 16:48

Also showing my age...

"It's Raining Men" - The Weathergirls
