Does re-registering an account with the same email address return it to the state it was previously in

Hello,

I had an old Mumsnet account that I de-registered alongside the whole hacking saga years ago. Created a new one using a new email account, and I'm really starting to miss things such as being able to view 1000 posts and some of the old MN folks I used to chat with (have since forgotten their usernames).

If I were to re-register for a MN account using that original email address, will I get my old post history back? What about the username I had? Will I be able to use that again on the re-registered account?

Thank you for your time!

Sadly not, this is my third account on thos email address and I lost all of my previous stuff.

WappersReturns · 07/06/2017 20:04

To clarify I may have flounced a few times over the years, I'm not a PBP Blush

Hi There, our tech team thinks you should, in theory, get your posting history back but this, sadly, can't be guaranteed. It is possible to re-register with your old username (if noone else has bagged it since you changed accounts) and you should then have the option to view 1000 posts.
Goodluck and let us know how it goes Gin

How can you re-register with the same account/MN user name/email address when you've already de-registered? I thought once it was gone, it was gone forever?

And how can someone else 'bag' one of your names after you de-registered?

IIRC, there was a discussion - many years ago now - about 'selling off' or reallocating old/ex user names, but it was all too complicated. Not least of which, it could be confusing to many of us who've been here for a while.

I have neither flounced nor re-registered, but I'm intrigued by Fliss and tech team's comments Confused

I de-regged a few weeks ago and now have this account using the same email address. Old posting history is gone, can't view 1000 messages etc.
I was a bit perplexed to find that I could re-register using the same email address.

Justanothersingledoutnumber · 10/06/2017 16:48

No you can't, HQ claim you can but once you deregister the email adress is black listed the same as if you are banned.

Have just tried with a couple of old usernames. I tried my original one and the one I was using most recently. Not having it. Odd that Tech say it should work.

user1495832265 · 10/06/2017 16:56

I'm logged in right now Justanother with the same email that I

a)registered with originally, back in 2008
b) deregistered a few weeks ago.

Brand new account, even got a 'Welcome to MN' email and the inability to NC for a few weeks.

FruBayerischOla · 10/06/2017 16:57

That's what I thought, Justanothersingledoutnumber.

I think that Fliss's response it a bit daft - sorry, Fliss!

It clearly doesn't work for everyone.

Justanothersingledoutnumber · 10/06/2017 17:08

It'll be interesting to see if you can change to your old Username user

Highalert · 10/06/2017 17:16

No one else can bag your old user name. I don't think you can re register with an email address you have used before either.

High Yes, you can. Please see my post 16.56 today.

Just I can't change to my old username. I've tried several, including the very first one I had and the last one, and none work.

OwlStories · 11/06/2017 18:33

Okay so I just tested this on my old email address. I was able to re-register for a new account, however, that was the extent of my "history". Posts were all gone, as were my old usernames, and I no longer had the option to view 1000 posts per page. It's basically a brand new account despite the old email address.

Sad

I've always had to use a new Email account. Maybe it's changed now.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 11/06/2017 18:39

I am seriously Hmm that a 'tech team' would think this possible. It sort of explains why there are always so many irritating tech problems with MN tbh.

Justanothersingledoutnumber · 11/06/2017 18:41

Lets face it Tech tech team have always seemed crap.
