TV addicts pop-up

When I click onto a new thread about a TV programme I get a popup demanding that I sign up to some film and TV newsletter which, so far as I can tell, you can't click away - you have to go back to the main list and click again.. It is EXTREMELY ANNOYING. Any chance of getting rid?

Was about to post the same thing - it pops up, but the 'close' button at the top doesn't work. Clicking on the background doesn't work. The only way to make it disappear is to sign up.

Chrome on Mac if that is relevant.

LightastheBreeze · 15/04/2017 20:34

On safari on iPad and it just popped up, I pressed the back arrow and it went away. Was reading the BGT thread

QueenOfTheHighCs · 15/04/2017 20:41

I've just had the rage about this too. I'm on android mobile and couldn't continue to use the site until I clicked 'subscibe'. Dreadful.

I'm cross about this. Please unsubscribe me from your newsletter. I didn't want to sign up but had no choice!

Wh0Kn0wsWhereTheTimeGoes · 15/04/2017 21:28

Yes, unsubscribe me too please and stop doing this.

ScaryMonstersandSuperCreeps · 15/04/2017 21:36

I'm getting it too! Dont need it Dont want it! MAKE IT GO AWAY MNHQ!!!!

MarieMorgan · 15/04/2017 22:12

Same here. Really annoying.

peukpokicuzo · 15/04/2017 22:23

So glad I don't have to start this thread.
Same happening here. Seems to be that it appears and is impossible to get rid of if I click one of the recent new posts in the "threads I'm on" menu but if I click the thread title it leaves me alone.

Please make it go away. Pop ups like that shouldn't hassle people more than once. No means no.

Same here on the film thread on my iPad. Is it something spammy?

Floralnomad · 15/04/2017 22:26

Cant shift it on my iPad I've just given up looking at TV threads .

TrashPanda · 15/04/2017 22:29

Yeah, same here. Can only get rid by hitting subscribe. The X doesn't work. Desktop site in Safari on my iPad.

LouMumsnet · 15/04/2017 22:55

Hi there. Just to let you know that we have seen this thread and have flagged it to Tech. Obviously it's late now but we just wanted to let you know that we've seen this and passed it on.

ReggaeShark · 16/04/2017 08:42

Grr. Same here. Just want it to eff off.

LightastheBreeze · 16/04/2017 21:14

What is this thing on TV addicts. I want to read the Homeland and Line of Duty thread tonight and the Broadchurch thread tomorrow and can't because of the pop up

PseudoBadger · 16/04/2017 21:16

God this is bloody awful!

Lweji · 16/04/2017 21:32

I just popped by to ask

WTAF is this, MN?

I can't bloody read my Homeland thread in peace. I have to keep reloading it. Not on!

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 16/04/2017 22:43

Please make it go away.

NoWordForFluffy · 16/04/2017 23:06

Ahhh...not just me then. A cross in the corner that doesn't actually make it fuck the fuck off. 😡😡😡😡

MitzyLeFrouf · 16/04/2017 23:09

I had to click subscribe just to get rid of it. I intend to unsubscribe though. I know you're always trying to promote the Film section but this is just annoying.

QueenOfTheHighCs · 17/04/2017 00:55

Any response MNHQ? We'd love to see evidence that you don't think we're a bunch of susceptible idiots here. It's barely credible that you're 'surprised' by this addition.

peukpokicuzo · 17/04/2017 01:24

Might I politely suggest that perhaps it's a bad idea for innovative new publicity ideas to be launched on us just before a weekend. This isn't the first time something annoying started happening which was the result of some new scheme to tell us about something, which appeared just as the weekend started and so couldn't be fixed for a while. A general policy to never launch something new on us unless there would be tech people in work over the next few days would be a really good idea.

I suspect someone was given Thursday as a deadline for finishing and implementing the code to create this popup, but no one will be available to fix it until Tuesday. A general policy to set deadlines to create new features always being on a Tuesday would mean we never get abandoned over a weekend (especially a long weekend) subjected to bugs like this.

insancerre · 17/04/2017 09:30

This is really annoying me too

You don't have to sign up to get rid of it, you can just use the back arrow and click in again and it seems to disappear.

However, I've just discovered a new bit of torture when it also pops up if you post a message. Seriously, even if you could get rid of it easily it would still be really irritating. How could anyone have ever thought this was a good idea?
