could we possibly organise this ?

I am totally shocked. This is the first I've heard of it. Agree it would be a nice thing to do.

Justine (mumsnet) · 09/06/2004 13:49

Hi Gingerbear,
Agree this would be a nice thing to do - and we'd be happy to facillitate. Wondering what the best way to go about it is. Perhaps we should say that any online subcriptions we receive on a certain day or days go to Michelle's charities? We'll then total them up and send a cheque to each? Would this work for people? How about we say this friday and saturday?

Janh · 09/06/2004 14:27

Saturday is a quiet day on mumsnet (like Lake Woebegone) - could we do Monday and Tuesday instead?

Or, could people post on the thread that they are about to make a payment and it's for Michelle? (That way you don't miss out on any genuine subs)

Justine (mumsnet) · 09/06/2004 14:39

Ok let's say monday and tuesday and never mind if we miss out on genuine subs - that can be our contribution .

Janh · 09/06/2004 14:59

Brilliant! Will you put something on the homepage in nice big letters?

suedonim · 09/06/2004 15:32

I'd be happy to contribute. Janh's idea is good, a thread saying that we've donated. It reminds me that I must donate to MN again, too!!

Gingerbear · 09/06/2004 15:45

Thanks Justine, I think if you publicise the intent over the next few days, then make Mon and Tues next week the days for donations, that would be great.

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 09/06/2004 15:52

I don't ever look at the homepage... can you put a banner on the talk pages?

carla · 09/06/2004 16:16

I think (and hope) my subs are up to date, but I'd still like to contribute. What can I do? I don't wan't to have m'snet bombarded with extra work, but I feel sure there are a lot of people out there who are up to date but still want to contribute. But it would be nice to have a collective contribution, especially (I think) as her husband might learn of it and appreciate how much she touched her customers.

carla · 09/06/2004 16:18

AND ... we're away those days

SoupDragon · 09/06/2004 16:21

Apart from the fact that you're away those days, I would imagine that it doesn't matter if you're up to date with your subs - you can just give again.

carla · 09/06/2004 16:26

Soupy, how would they MN differentiate between giving them extra subs and making a contribution, though?

Janh · 09/06/2004 17:31

carla, I think the idea is - if I've understood Justine correctly - that everybody who pays anything on Mon or Tues gets credited as having paid subs (unless they've already paid recently in which case they're already credited) but all the money will go to Michelle's charities and not mumsnet.

If anybody hasn't paid their subs yet, and also wants to contribute to Michelle, they can do an actual sub this week and then another for Michelle next week?

I think this is a lovely idea (and v generous of mumsnet!)

Justine (mumsnet) · 09/06/2004 21:03

Hi Guys,
Yes JanH's explanation is spot on. If you pay a sub on monday or tuesday we'll pass it on to the charities in question and you'll go down on the subscribers list (and we won't mail you about subscribing) for a year. You can physically pay a sub as many times a year as you like - the system is very good at accepting payments . Carla, would it possible to get someone to do it for you if you're away? Soupdragon we'll put a thread up on monday to remind people and we'll let you all know on wednesday how we did.

codswallop · 09/06/2004 21:07

how generous

codswallop · 09/06/2004 21:10

I must say ( after 3 glasses of wine) that I have mixed feelings about my Michelle persona now.

it was all in good humour wasnt it?

kalex · 09/06/2004 21:17

Coddie.

I always took your Michelle persona in the good humour that it was meant. STOP BEATING YOURSELF UP ABOUT THIS. You didn't know she was going to die. You never said things about her that were nasty.

It happened, please we all luaghed, you were FUNNY. if Michelle saw it she would have laughed too. CODDY. Please don't do this to yourself Please

codswallop · 09/06/2004 21:29

oh thanks - it has preyed on my mnd a little.
Ok wil shut up now

kalex · 09/06/2004 21:36

Coody. you paid Michelle the biggest compliment of all, becasue of you, we all knew her.

I personally logged into the website and emailed a condolence. She would have ;oved your pisstake. That is a huge compliment to anyone.

If anybody wants to start a KIRSTY pseudoynm, I would be seriously chuffed,

If I believed, i would say that she is smiling from hevaen at you. Smile CODDY.

codswallop · 09/06/2004 21:37

ok

Janh · 09/06/2004 22:21

Agree with kalex coddy, don't feel mixed, it was fun and we all liked it and she would have too.

Lovely to have people notice you and feel sad that you've gone!

Gingerbear · 10/06/2004 03:35

Coddy, just think of the number of famous people who love to see themselves sent up by likes of Alistair Mcgowan et al.

I agree with kalex and janh, Michelle would have been amused. And pleased about the publicity we have given to Lakeland. How many mumsnetters knew of Lakeland before your threads and links?
