Hide Poster Function

I know this has been requested a million times over and I know that it is not a popular proposal but it is time that we had the ability to hide posters.

MN has evolved into a place that I barely recognize anymore - the lighthearted threads where you are free to have a laugh are few and far between. Instead, active is flooded with bun fight after bun fight filled with incendiary views that deter those of us who do not ascribe to the same views from posting. And these threads are routinely started by the same posters. I have been a member of MN for 9 years and it is a place I used to come to relax, have a few laughs and share parenting stories, good and bad. That is no longer the case and any attempt to start such a thread is met with eyerolls and accusations of "first world problems".

Personally, my MN experience would be much improved if I had the option to simply hide all posts by a select group of members and continue with the remainder of the threads. It is not enough to simply hide topics anymore as threads are often started in AIBU, Chat and Site Stuff in order to generate traffic.

PLEASE MNHQ, can we finally be given the option of hiding other MN members? It is a feature that is well overdue.

Yep, what Annie posted.

Has this been discussed yet HQ?

It's been discussed so So many times before and dismissed.

I think it's a shit idea. The day they implement a hide poster option is the day I leave.

SoupDragon · 18/09/2016 17:24

no one knows you've done it.

They will when the same person repeatedly fails to respond.

I'm on the fence with this one

I used to use another parenting forum that had a Hide User function. I honestly only used it to hide people with signatures I didn't like (one with triggering song lyrics, many with fLuFfY tWiNkLiNg shit). Not exactly an issue here.

Frequent "do you hide anyone?" threads rarely found anyone who'd say yes.

I can only think of one poster I'd hide. She isn't that prolific so she doesn't bother me much, but I wouldn't miss her.

The other people who flitted across my mind are only wankers on certain kinds of threads. I want to hear from them on others, so I couldn't hide them.

From a technology point of view it's irrelevant what other forums can do - they're built on different platforms. Bit like saying you want an extension like your mate Dave, when he lives in a 70s semi and you live in a brand new first floor flat.
