Hide Poster Function

I know this has been requested a million times over and I know that it is not a popular proposal but it is time that we had the ability to hide posters.

MN has evolved into a place that I barely recognize anymore - the lighthearted threads where you are free to have a laugh are few and far between. Instead, active is flooded with bun fight after bun fight filled with incendiary views that deter those of us who do not ascribe to the same views from posting. And these threads are routinely started by the same posters. I have been a member of MN for 9 years and it is a place I used to come to relax, have a few laughs and share parenting stories, good and bad. That is no longer the case and any attempt to start such a thread is met with eyerolls and accusations of "first world problems".

Personally, my MN experience would be much improved if I had the option to simply hide all posts by a select group of members and continue with the remainder of the threads. It is not enough to simply hide topics anymore as threads are often started in AIBU, Chat and Site Stuff in order to generate traffic.

PLEASE MNHQ, can we finally be given the option of hiding other MN members? It is a feature that is well overdue.

There are a number of people who have posters hidden. It hasn't caused any problems as far as I can see.

I hid two people for 2 years or so. It was ace. One was constantly goading and picking at me whenever I was on a thread, the other just held such opposing views to me that I was struggling not to type YOU WANKER every time I saw them.

So I hid them. And no-one else knew. And the world didn't end. And MN didn't implode. It didn't cause any of the problems that people prophesied it would.

Now that my laptop has blown up I am stuck with the twatphone. So I cannot hide anyone any more. One has gone (or at least namechanged and now ignores me), one doesn't post as much, but when she does I hide the thread so I'm not tempted (which is fucking annoying if I am enjoying it). I have to self moderate and don't post anywhere near as much as I did.

So. I'd support this. But it will never happen. Sorry Annie.

I just hide everything that comes onto Active from the referendum topic. I'd rather remove a topic from Active than hide a poster. Threads would no longer make sense.

There are numerous transphobic threads. Denying it is ridiculous.

Given the amount of NC GF I suspect that there might only be 13 posters left if I could hide them.

Remember nobody really knows who is typing on here, it's not real life and playground tiffs get threads deleted so any decent advice is lost. I could be the Beast of Bloody Bodmin but who really knows?

Can't see this happening any time soon but will put to the Powers that be again

Can I please ask why you can't see this happening? Is it a genuine issue such as the logistics or cost of implementing it or is it simply that the powers that be don't want to? Either way, for once it would be nice to know why this repeated request is being ignored.

IIRC I think it's a combo of logistics and also that it could render convo's completely senseless although I was just on a thread about Ross from Friends that was not much different

However just cos something has historically always been a no-go doesn't mean that it will always be so as I said, we'll ask the PowersThatBe and see if it is feasible.
