Hide Poster Function

I know this has been requested a million times over and I know that it is not a popular proposal but it is time that we had the ability to hide posters.

MN has evolved into a place that I barely recognize anymore - the lighthearted threads where you are free to have a laugh are few and far between. Instead, active is flooded with bun fight after bun fight filled with incendiary views that deter those of us who do not ascribe to the same views from posting. And these threads are routinely started by the same posters. I have been a member of MN for 9 years and it is a place I used to come to relax, have a few laughs and share parenting stories, good and bad. That is no longer the case and any attempt to start such a thread is met with eyerolls and accusations of "first world problems".

Personally, my MN experience would be much improved if I had the option to simply hide all posts by a select group of members and continue with the remainder of the threads. It is not enough to simply hide topics anymore as threads are often started in AIBU, Chat and Site Stuff in order to generate traffic.

PLEASE MNHQ, can we finally be given the option of hiding other MN members? It is a feature that is well overdue.

With the exception of picturing myself ramming a cactus up their arse, I can't do what you suggest Arf. It is hard to ignore threads or posters when they are so prolific. I know I can hide the offending threads, and I do, but I spend more time hiding threads lately than I do actually engaging with other MNers. That's not right.

Ramming a cactus up their arse Grin

Hope you haven't visualised that with me! Shock though that would explain the phantom pains..

The only thing I have stopped caring about is being popular. When I first joined, I used to crave attention and would be heartbroken when I wasn't listed on the "My Favourite MNer" threads. I have no idea why, but it was important to me that I was well known and well liked. Now, I couldn't give a toss. If you like me that fab, if not, meh.

Whilst I shouldn't care, I do get pissed off with the near constant stream of threads which on closer examination have been started by a name changer who is just a GF.
If I could just hide those, I'm pretty confident that I wouldn't see many GF threads as I'm convinced they are a small but prolific group.

coco that's not a bad idea, hiding them for maybe 7 days or even 30?

I like your idea, Coconutty. Make hide posters temporary for a period of days after which time you have to opt back in or the goady fuckers reappear.

I hate you too chipped and have done for years, you atrocious cunt. Wink

How the fuck can you ask for peace and love with several vitriolic transphobic threads proudly being displayed by you Olivia?

AnnieOnAMapleLeaf · 26/08/2016 20:42

Thank you for your post Olivia but, quite frankly, you are asking the wrong group of people for a "peace and love". The shit disturbers are not the people taking part in this thread; the shit disturbers are the ones posting threads for the sole purpose of spouting their ideals and stomping on those who dare to disagree. And for some inexplicable reason, those that are standing up and saying enough is enough are being ignored while the shit disturbers are being permitted to carry on. Its disgusting.

I don't know whether to report Anne for calling me a cunt or laugh hysterically at being asked for peace and love.
Close down the GF, name changers, daily mail journalists and all the other groups who are changing MN into a humourless fight club and peace and love will be restored.

If you feel so strongly you don't want to read a particular poster a post saying you have hidden them and the thread doesn't quite flow is the price you pay.

I hardly notice names.

Can I please ask why you can't see this happening? Is it a genuine issue such as the logistics or cost of implementing it or is it simply that the powers that be don't want to? Either way, for once it would be nice to know why this repeated request is being ignored.

I leave fairly often Dixie but have yet to dereg. I fear that is the next step which makes me incredibly sad as I have met so many wonderful people on here. It is just becoming increasingly difficult to wade through the bullshit to find the good stuff.

A hide account thing would be better, I'm sure most of the posters I would hide are goady nc

Goady nc?!? On MN? I can't see that happening!

I think it would be relatively easy to have a function to hide threads started by selected users. You could still see their contributions on others' threads but nothing started by them.

How about that as a compromise?
