Hide Poster Function

I know this has been requested a million times over and I know that it is not a popular proposal but it is time that we had the ability to hide posters.

MN has evolved into a place that I barely recognize anymore - the lighthearted threads where you are free to have a laugh are few and far between. Instead, active is flooded with bun fight after bun fight filled with incendiary views that deter those of us who do not ascribe to the same views from posting. And these threads are routinely started by the same posters. I have been a member of MN for 9 years and it is a place I used to come to relax, have a few laughs and share parenting stories, good and bad. That is no longer the case and any attempt to start such a thread is met with eyerolls and accusations of "first world problems".

Personally, my MN experience would be much improved if I had the option to simply hide all posts by a select group of members and continue with the remainder of the threads. It is not enough to simply hide topics anymore as threads are often started in AIBU, Chat and Site Stuff in order to generate traffic.

PLEASE MNHQ, can we finally be given the option of hiding other MN members? It is a feature that is well overdue.

Oh he is a handsome piggy

Is he a Siamese? Or is it Himalayan?

Report
PurpleDaisies · 27/08/2016 22:46

He's a ruby eyed Himalayan soubriquet. They're all currently doing their best to convince me no one has fed them today (clearly not true!).

monster that's a really top quality typo. Grin

That's just piggies in general isn't it?

I used to have two. Noisy buggers. I now just have a cat. Cat food is apparently not good enough for her. She prefers the diet of ham sandwhiches and chicken nuggets

You know how pregnancy choices has a note saying 'this is for people's experiences debate on the ethics can be found here and here' (or words to that effect). I think there could be a disability section with a similar warning - this is for people living with disability and their careers. Debates around this topic should not be posted here'.

It's lovely to be welcomed home by a chorus of excited squeaking too

Sounds wonderful. They are gorgeous.

I don't think Annie will mind. Most people like furries

Nope. Don't mind in the slightest. I have a love/hate relationship with piggies though - they are adorable and I love watching them but you couldn't pay me enough to touch them. I can't handle rodents.

Ive been on here over 10 years and dont recognise this fictional light hearted place it was supposed to be back then.
Its always had its bun fights,if anything its a bit better balanced now. There were a few posters who ruled certain boards ie weaning which thankfully doesnt happen so much now , although relationships is still the same , so needs to be avoided.

Has this been discussed yet, HQ?

While your discussing it MNHQ, can we also have wee green and red arrows like the DM? Grin Post could be automatically hidden after they had x number of red arrows - think how much work that would save your moderators Wink and it would be so much fun to watch the ensuing fighting

Why and how would it highlight who has been hidden? It works really well on other sites and much smaller ones than MN. It's only like hiding threads now but more specific.

It's just the same as hiding a thread- no one knows you've done it.

Report
AnnieOnAMapleLeaf · 05/09/2016 01:33

It's not about hiding people you detest, Navy. At least, it isn't for me. There are a few posters on MN that have vastly different ideals than I do and I personally find it very difficult to read and ignore and then I am left quite upset. It would be much easier to simply hide those posters I clash with and go back to enjoying MN again.
