Can we have a 'Deleted Threads' topic?

MamOfTwo · 25/05/2016 22:52

So, I posted this suggestion on one of the many threads that got deleted today but I am starting a new thread to put my suggestion forward again. My suggestion is this:

Why don't MNHQ make a Topic called 'Deleted Threads' - when a thread gets zapped, it can be popped in there with just the title visible and a deletion message. That way, if a thread you have been following has disappeared, that can be your first port of call to see if it is there and it will prevent countless posters started threads saying "What happened to that thread...?" and TAAT.

Just an idea - might save you some work, MNHQ! If this idea won't work, it would be interesting to know why. Just a thought really...

You could call it
"I'm just here for the deletion message"
as that is what many posters use to rubberneck a thread.

Or even "Rubberneckers" Grin

MiffleTheIntrovert · 26/05/2016 12:55

It is really annoying that deletions don't appear on the iPhone app - could this be altered?

I don't see the need for a separate corner if the title and deletion message is visible on TIO. Am I missing something? Probably

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 26/05/2016 13:00

Miffle - I think a lot of people read threads without posting on them.

So you get half way through a thread (often before it kicks off), go off to make dinner / feed the cat / pick the kids up / whatever and it's gone. Then you start a TAAT saying "what happened?" and everyone gets cross because you dared to be interested in something and you're not psychic.

With a Deleted Threads bit you can just look in that, see it's been deleted and wander off and do something else.

PaulDacresMicroPenis · 26/05/2016 13:05

Case in point, another conifer thread started just now

HeffalumpHistory · 26/05/2016 13:05

I like this idea! Not Sin Bin though, occasionally threads are deleted for other reasons like op being outed & not just trolls.
The graveyard sounds good. Or No TAATs Allowed. That's s bit rubbish. I'll have a think of more

RebeccaMumsnet · 26/05/2016 13:09

The thing is though, it won't change what happens already apart from to put them in one place so that we don't get a gazillion TAAT.

Threads that have been deleted are still there with a deletion message, the trolls will be able to see them once they've been zapped anyway.

idontlikealdi · 26/05/2016 13:10

I can't see deleted messages on the app - I've been sucked into three of the bloody things and thy just vanish

Where? I use the mobile site and unless I've posted or watched them they just vanish.

CiderwithBuda · 26/05/2016 13:17

I think it's a great idea. Just the thread title and the deletion message.

Calling it The Graveyard would work but just calling it Deleted Threads and putting it in Site Stuff might be better as it isn't anything special. Nothing for trolls to aim for. Just deleted, title moved into Deleted Threads and no fanfare or hundreds of TAATs.

SoupDragon · 26/05/2016 13:18

The only thing anyone needs to think after seeing that a thread has been deleted is 'that was a troll I will now move on with my life and give the attention seeker no more attention'

Which is all well and good if you know that the thread was deleted and read the deletion message. That would be the point of moving them to The Graveyard so posters could check there rather than start a TAAT to ask where it went.

MrsVamos · 26/05/2016 13:21

Please don't call it The Graveyard.

Just a thread in SS entitled Deleted should be enough for pps to find ?

HeffalumpHistory · 26/05/2016 13:25

I think it would be better if the thread was left locked for say 24 hours so people could still read it but not comment then it was just the deletion message.

But if people can still read it all they can still become invested/upset etc. People miss the big fuck off Zombie & warning on Zombie threads so good chance they'd miss this warning, although with it locked at least they couldn't post like they do on Zombie's

poorbuthappy · 26/05/2016 13:27

I started a thread asking if we should deal with deleted threads differently yesterday and my bloody thread got deleted.

YoureSoSlyButSoAmI · 26/05/2016 13:28

I think being able to read - but not comment on - troll threads would help to hone trolldars.

PurpleDaisies · 26/05/2016 13:29

It could well encourage trolls though, and wouldn't other threads spring up to discuss the locked threads?

WellErrr · 26/05/2016 13:30

I'm just here for the deletion message

That would be a good name.

SoupDragon · 26/05/2016 13:33

I think troll threads should continue to be deleted and not just locked.

DoItTooJulia · 26/05/2016 13:34

Under The Bridge

Obvs, it's where they live and: as in it's all 'water under the bridge'

YabuDabbaDoo · 26/05/2016 13:34

I don't think the Troll Hole or Graveyard are appropriate. People sometimes ask for sensitive threads where they've over-shared to be deleted, too.

For that reason alone I think it's not a good idea on a community forum. Imagine "I can't cope with my child's death" on such a list.

I also feel that trolls would get a kick out of the trophy cabinet!

YabuDabbaDoo · 26/05/2016 13:40

Plus, people would still just post "what happened to the thread about..?" and not check that topic, unless of course that topic got a lot of traffic, and if it did that would be allll kinds of bad.

I can see it now.... The Daily Mail's weekly round-up of threads that Mumsnet openly censored...

DoorToTheRiver · 26/05/2016 13:47

I think it's a good idea. In theory it would minimise the chances of getting an abundance of threads like yesterday asking what happened to the thread which we aren't talking about.

I don't think locking them is a good idea though for the reasons stated above. Just the title and deletion message. Definitely delete them after a period of time too - 7 days perhaps.

IamtheZombie · 26/05/2016 13:54

Zombie thinks a locked thread in Site Stuff with just the thread titles and deletion messages is an excellent idea.

How about calling it "All That Remains".

DoorToTheRiver · 26/05/2016 13:56

The troll threads could go in 'Cunt Corner' - with any luck the trolls would not aspire to be there!
