Mumsnet emails mostly going to Junk

cozietoesie · 24/03/2016 12:37

I've noticed over the past few days that many/most of the general Mumsnet emails sent to me are going to Junk Mail. It so happens that I check my junk mail regularly/daily - not everyone does - but has something changed recently with the way they're sent out eg the volume or in the way my email provider (yahoo) handles large volume communications?

It's Yahoo. They're bleeding useless.

Virgin is doing the same thing.

The mumsnet daily emails go straight into spam. The emails from "Lonely frustrated Olga" (and her many friends) are sitting happily in the main folder. Confused

They have their disadvantages it's true, ouryve, but they seem to be pretty hot on spam. I can't remember the last time I was invited to have some Viagra! Grin

Hi everyone - we do have "spam tests" that we run to make sure our emails aren't coming across as spam, but it looks like some email providers are still not liking them very much.

There are a few different things you can do to let your spam filter know we're nothing bad:

  • Whitelist the email address "[email protected]" (add to your address book) to let your filter know it's safe.
  • Whitelist the email address "[email protected]" by sending a blank email to this address (you can delete the bounce back email you get from this process).
  • If you go into your Spam folder, the email will be marked as spam. Dependent on which email provider you use, you can remove this "mark" by clicking the "x" next to it or by moving it into your Inbox.

We hope that made sense, but do get back with any further questions.

Thanks for the tips.

Virgin's "This is not spam" option rarely seems to work but I've just sent a blank email to see if that helps.

Gah! The bounceback email went straight into the spam folder.

Virgin are hopeless.

Maybe their system hadn't had time to register a change?

You were right. Today's mumsnet daily went into the right folder. :)

Was it the sending the blank email that helped? Nice to know that trick if indeed it does help with various filters. Wonder if it will work with Hotmail.

Yes I think it was sending the blank email that made the difference.

It's definitely worth a try.
