Can we have a topic where name changing is not allowed?

Lots of people feel the 'atmosphere' has been somewhat lost, due to MN becoming so big and so many people name changing for dubious reasons.

So how about a new topic where name changing is not allowed?

So to post in that section, you choose a different name (much like in Mumsnet local). But you have to stick to that name only.

That way, in that section at least, there would be less arses/goady fuckers/Billy bullshitters and drama llamas, hiding behind name changes.

People will become 'regulars' again (in that section at least) and when you go there to chat, you'll at least 'recognise' other people.

OK I'm sure there are 1 million reasons why this is a stupid idea/impossible to set up, but can anyone think of them? Grin

Would a small bottle of beer for Tech help? Grin

Thanks for getting back to us - hope it can be done in the future.

PS Now holding out hope for emojiis going...............

00100001 · 04/01/2016 14:29

The Emojis are going . MNHQ Confirmed this before Christmas!

Sparklingbrook · 04/01/2016 14:31

I only saw the emoji debate thread that said they were thinking about the emojis going, has there been an update?

Fingers crossed.

Sparklingbrook · 04/01/2016 14:31

And if they are going can it be done immediately?

magimedi · 04/01/2016 14:32

Sparkling - if you are deflated you need some watercress.

Full or iron & gives you bounce!!

magimedi · 04/01/2016 14:32

of iron

They can't do it immediately, because they activated them by accident it appears. Anyway they said they needed to wait until January for the tech's to work out how to actively stop them.

Sparklingbrook · 04/01/2016 15:41

Mmmm.

Sparklingbrook · 04/01/2016 15:43

This was the last thing I read from MNHQ on the emoji subject-

Hi all,

Thank you all for your feedback , much appreciated.

We've had a check with Tech and rolling back is going to take a fair bit of work, so we're going to monitor over the holidays and see how it goes.

If folks are still not happy in the New Year, we will have another look.

00100001 · 04/01/2016 15:46

Just saying what they said :)

Sparklingbrook · 04/01/2016 15:47

I don't read that they are going just that they will have another look.

Queenbean · 04/01/2016 15:49

I'm sad about this

SoupDragon · 04/01/2016 15:49

They said they would remove them on another thread, not the original emoji one.

Sparklingbrook · 04/01/2016 15:50

Oh ok SD that's great. Smile

SoupDragon · 04/01/2016 15:53

Hmmmm..it was a little more vague than I remembered but I still read it as being that they will be going "after Christmas"

00100001 Asked about getting rid of them on the emoji-in-titles thread and Dawnmumsnet replied

Well, you may just get your Christmas wish.

Only it won't be until after Christmas... fwink

SoupDragon · 04/01/2016 15:54

I'm a little more ambivalent towards them now things have calmed down.

However, the fact that not everyone can see them means they should go.

Sparklingbrook · 04/01/2016 15:55

'after Christmas'. Make of that what you will. Grin Maybe we have to wait til Twelfth Night. Tree and emojis to the tip.

SoupDragon · 04/01/2016 16:00

Noo... Emojis can't go to the tip. It's the only way I can get my teens to communicate with me. Just banish them from MN :)

Fiderer · 04/01/2016 20:05

How about the other way around?

Only one topic where name-changing is allowed. Something like "Advice urgently needed"? So new posters & existing posters who genuinely need to name change can post anonymously.

Name could be better. I thought of "Help urgently needed" but it was a bit Agatha Christie/Downton. Then "Support urgently needed" but that was a bit like the wonderful correct bra size threads.

Name aside, would that not be easier tech-wise?

Somethingisntactuallyanything · 04/01/2016 20:42

I'm really disappointed.... The current situation with all the meanness and trollery completely puts me off posting Sad

Come on mnhq, if to you've got local, unchanging names for local and restriction to older members on the sex topic, is it impossible to combine the two for a regulars corner?

(I don't mean local sex, obviously!)

Catzpyjamas · 04/01/2016 21:58

We could always stage a takeover of one of the local boards. We'd need to sweep it out and clear away the cobwebs first though.

tangerinesarenottheonlyfruit · 04/01/2016 23:08

A topic where no one can name change, that's be great.

But most of the site no name changing? You'd lose loads of us. You don't know who we are coz we name change so much! Grin But we are many!

And it'd change the nature of the site, it'd be more for entertainmetn and less about support IMO.

I've been here 8 years and a fairly prolific poster at some points. But I very much value the name=change feature, as I would be pretty identifiable if all my thread history was under the same name! And then I would feel very inhibited in what I posted, I'd be afraid of being identified, I would probably continue to post on frivolous threads. But I'd be much less likely to ask for help if I needed it, or share personal experience in sensitive areas to help someone else. And I would be very wary posting anything about people I know or personal issues I wanted to talk about.
