Can we have a topic where name changing is not allowed?

Lots of people feel the 'atmosphere' has been somewhat lost, due to MN becoming so big and so many people name changing for dubious reasons.

So how about a new topic where name changing is not allowed?

So to post in that section, you choose a different name (much like in Mumsnet local). But you have to stick to that name only.

That way, in that section at least, there would be less arses/goady fuckers/Billy bullshitters and drama llamas, hiding behind name changes.

People will become 'regulars' again (in that section at least) and when you go there to chat, you'll at least 'recognise' other people.

OK I'm sure there are 1 million reasons why this is a stupid idea/impossible to set up, but can anyone think of them? Grin

I would (grugingly) settle for a genetic sparkly drink emoji

Eg 🍸

(Don't put me on your list Maryz, this is for illustrative purposes only)

Ha. Generic! It can count as your gin if you want. Or anything else (pineapple daiquiri or something)

It doubles up as booze and gin.

Life doesn't get any better, cheers!

Queenbean · 30/12/2015 23:08

Sorry StillStaying! I, unreasonably, went off to real life for a bit and lost track of the thread.

I bow to your emoji greatness Grin

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 30/12/2015 23:13

That's ok Queen .

I do like a martini glass, me!

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 31/12/2015 08:43

Wonder if we'll get some sort of reply today?

magimedi · 31/12/2015 08:53

Don't hold your breath, *Saga!

I woke up with the idea that maybe we have got this all wrong & there should be only one special place where you can name change! Wouldn't that be much easier?

Or only allow name change in relationships, health & SN?

OddSocksHighHeels · 31/12/2015 09:47

That's not a bad idea magi

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 31/12/2015 10:05

That's a really good idea, magi.

I was thinking about why MN allow unlimited NC'es last night. (Yes, I was actually pondering over this!) And I really couldn't think of a good reason why it's unlimited. I can understand one, maybe two, with special permission going beyond that...but why unlimited?

WorraLiberty · 31/12/2015 10:29

I can't see all the emojis but I really don't care Blush

I've a feeling that if HQ decided on allowing name changing for only a handful of topics, they'd be inundated with people complaining and pleading.

I change my username to a different one when I am on a thread that specifically talks about my husbands job, each thread I namechange. It wouldn't happen very often, maybe 6/7 times a year. I have a username that I use on all other threads that I've never changed (7/8 years).

Threads that I use different names on usually are posted in Chat, AIBU. He doesn't have that intriguing a job Grin, its just that due to where I live and various other family considerations I'd rather namechange each time.

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 31/12/2015 16:57

Can I ask whychange, would it put you off MN if you weren't able to use the NC function? Or if you could only have 1 or 2 NC's?

whychangeagain · 31/12/2015 17:35

Yes, I think it would. Obviously I wouldn't join in threads that I would have previously namechanged for, if for example I was allowed three different usernames I'd be thinking "is this thread worth using a namechange for?" Obviously I could just use the same alternate name for each thread that I feel requires an extra level of confidentiality but I still would feel a bit nervy.

It would just give me an extra reason not to use MN, probably no great loss but it would cut me off from a website I've used very regularly and I've enjoyed and if I can't use MN how will everyone know how right I always am Wink

magimedi · 31/12/2015 17:49

But if you only used one other name, why & only used that for your husband's job & nothing else surely no one would know anything else about you?

whychangeagain · 31/12/2015 18:06

Because as I previously said I'd rather have the choice to name change from thread to thread. A special non name changing section of MN wouldn't be my thing but I've no objection at all to it. I only posted on this thread because I'd been reading the whole thread and posters had mentioned not understanding why other posters might want the ability to name change numerous times.

Christinayangstwistedsista · 31/12/2015 18:08

I couldn't keep up with name changes and would probably get myself in a mess, quite happy with one name

Caprinihahahaha · 31/12/2015 18:10

Fwiw I have no problem with posters wanting to name change.

I do have a slight issue with the few that seem to object to one area where it is not allowed.

Sparklingbrook · 31/12/2015 18:10

I got myself in a right tangle Christina. I also feel that for me if i thought 'I need to namechange to post this' I would know not to post it. It's a good reminder.

Christinayangstwistedsista · 31/12/2015 18:12

Exactly, if I don't want people to know something I just wouldn't post it

Sparklingbrook · 31/12/2015 18:15

I did get a bit flamed once for admitting that though. Sad

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 31/12/2015 18:24

Thanks, why. I'm just trying to wrap my head around MN being one of the only forums that allows multiple NCing and why that is, so was curious to know the opinion of someone who quite likes that function. Nothing to do with the Non-NC section we're hoping asking for.

EduCated · 31/12/2015 18:31

I have various name changes. I try to keep superfluous chatty stuff all under one name, other names for anything vaguely identifying. Therefore would use chatty name if there was a non name-change section. Wouldn't affect posting elsewhere at all.
