Can we have a topic where name changing is not allowed?

Lots of people feel the 'atmosphere' has been somewhat lost, due to MN becoming so big and so many people name changing for dubious reasons.

So how about a new topic where name changing is not allowed?

So to post in that section, you choose a different name (much like in Mumsnet local). But you have to stick to that name only.

That way, in that section at least, there would be less arses/goady fuckers/Billy bullshitters and drama llamas, hiding behind name changes.

People will become 'regulars' again (in that section at least) and when you go there to chat, you'll at least 'recognise' other people.

OK I'm sure there are 1 million reasons why this is a stupid idea/impossible to set up, but can anyone think of them? Grin

We Grow watercress in our koi pond, it's good for filtering water apparently. We don't eat it though. With that random comment, I'm off to NC.

TenTinyTadpoles · 30/12/2015 13:16

Ok, who is Yoda and why does he/she do the words in the wrong order?

TheCrowFromBelow · 30/12/2015 13:33

Sounds good Maryz & Worra.

I like the idea of a permanent Chat Hat - now that I've found a username I like. Took me a few goes though!

IamtheZombie · 30/12/2015 13:40

Yoda is a character from Star Wars, TenTinyTadpoles.

The emojis are staying? THE EMOJIS ARE STAYING?!?!

BoreOfWhabylon · 30/12/2015 14:11

I take it emojis will be banned in the Regular Scorner/Royal Enclosure?

Unless they are watercress emojis - even then, am not keen on the idea.

BoreOfWhabylon · 30/12/2015 14:12

Shamrock Watercress!

WorraLiberty · 30/12/2015 14:26

I think this should replace the MNHQ 'Peace and love message'

MNHQ didn't say the emoji were staying, they said it was proving more difficult to get rid of them than they thought and they would review it in the new year.

ProjectPerfect · 30/12/2015 14:34

Use of emojis is a useful screening tool, not unlike numerical additions to names.

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 30/12/2015 14:34

I can't help thinking that this would involve setting up a whole new sub-forum like MN Local rather than just bunging on some restrictions to a topic.

And, like every single change to MN, it would all go horribly wrong and everyone would complain. :o

I would say the emojis are staying. They can't be that difficult to get rid of.

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 30/12/2015 14:43

From memory, they appeared as a result of an"improvement" or upgrade to something else. Removing just the emoji and not the "improvement" is what is tricky.

TenTinyTadpoles · 30/12/2015 14:47

Look, there is even a topic t-shirt. MN we need this topic Grin

Sad

I like an emoji.

BearPursuedByAnExit · 30/12/2015 14:50

Oh my fucking aunt. Trying to change my name back to my usual moniker and the system won't jeffing let me!!!!!!!!!

Sparklingbrook · 30/12/2015 14:51

The main problem the emojis is that not everyone can see them, or do them. So if people are posting their emojis here there and everywhere not everyone knows what they are trying to say.

Plus they make MN look a bit of a mess.

TenTinyTadpoles · 30/12/2015 15:07

We need to have a thread housekeeper/robot that comes along and makes it all nice and tidy don't we?

TheSpectreOfMorningtonCrescent · 30/12/2015 15:18

Me too Classy. I'll get mine too.
Oh we have TC on the Sweary thread, he brings soothing drinks and tidies up and makes the place look... Lovely. That's not what you mean, is it?

OddSocksHighHeels · 30/12/2015 15:24

Another one here getting her coat.
