Can we have a topic where name changing is not allowed?

WorraLiberty · 29/12/2015 15:21

Lots of people feel the 'atmosphere' has been somewhat lost, due to MN becoming so big and so many people name changing for dubious reasons.

So how about a new topic where name changing is not allowed?

So to post in that section, you choose a different name (much like in Mumsnet local). But you have to stick to that name only.

That way, in that section at least, there would be less arses/goady fuckers/Billy bullshitters and drama llamas, hiding behind name changes.

People will become 'regulars' again (in that section at least) and when you go there to chat, you'll at least 'recognise' other people.

OK I'm sure there are 1 million reasons why this is a stupid idea/impossible to set up, but can anyone think of them? Grin

Lovely to see so many familiar faces here, and maybe that's what Worra is yearning for.

I don't know. I nc a lot, but "properly" - one consistent name within each topic and never a GF or socky or cunt on any of them as far as I can manage.

I should also point out that there are plenty of people who post relatively frequently but only on _Chat and 30 Days so they look very new on an AS but MNHQ can presumably see that there have been eleventy squillion posts over five years or whatever.

I never use Local, partly because I registered for it a long time ago with a functional username relating to a local support group I was running at the time. I'm not associated with them any more, so I'm not going to use it. But I can't change my Local ID at all so that area is effectively blocked off to me forever.

I've been asking for aaaaages for restriction on nc-ing on a thread you've already posted on. This started from my own embarrassment at a thread on which I was the OP as say HaemorrhagicPiles and replied later as MrsHathaway ... and had a flurry of helpful but alarmed PMs pointing out my cock up. MNHQ have always been very gracious and prompt at covering up my nc slips but I do think at the very least if you try to post in a new name on a TIO you should get a prompt saying "You have already posted on this thread as HaemorrhagicPiles: are you sure you want to post as MrsHathaway?" and you click on "post as HaemorrhagicPiles", "post as MrsHathaway" or "cancel".

If MNHQ wanted a challenge then every time someone clicked on the sock puppet option it would send MNHQ a notification.

Anyway that's my original contribution to this thread. I agree that it's good to recognise nicknames and build up a rapport with people. I agree that malicious or capricious name changing is a problem. But I do not accept that MN is fundamentally different from other online forums or social media except in its nc function and swear tolerance. Losing nc generally would massively reduce the appeal of MN to trolls, yes, but also to genuine posters in genuine need of the help and support that the site is meant to be for. And I think that would be a shame.

I wouldn't want to block a Regular Scorner but I don't accept the rationale behind it. Why can't it be a quiche in good faith?

Great idea Worra and everyone

MrsHathaway · 29/12/2015 21:28

Cross posted with lots of lovely tennis. Fuck.

MrsVamos · 29/12/2015 21:28

Bathsheba

I've been here years, and was very prolific in 'helping' when the mobile site was set up.

Shameful, I tell you.

Christinayangstwistedsista · 29/12/2015 21:30

I like

Most forms of alcohol
I'm Scottish so have no understanding of Cricket whatsoever, watch tennis when andy Murray is playing
Have recently discovered kfc gravy

Sparklingbrook · 29/12/2015 21:30

MrsV I tend to find out who won before I watch. Much easier. I like to see what necklace Lewis Hamilton is wearing in the post race interview too.

I cannot watch the before race grid walk as it's too cringey. Grin

MrsVamos · 29/12/2015 21:30

Sparks

Of course I meant F1.

Bloody phones with teeny keys. Angry

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 29/12/2015 21:31

MRS VAMOS!!!!

How the heck are you Smile

I had pea shoots on my dinner last night. Tennis balls are indeed chartreuse. But yellowish green will do in a pinch.

MrsVamos · 29/12/2015 21:32

Yy, Sparks !

Makes it nicer to watch when you know Lewis has won - or anyone but Nico !

WotNoLoobrush · 29/12/2015 21:33

Another occasional poster but long time lurker here. I like the idea of a topic just for regulars.

At the very least, I hope MN will consider a change to NC rules. I've only found out tonight that Gransnet users can't NC.

MrsVamos · 29/12/2015 21:34

Hearts

Hullo lovely.

I'm still alive. That's about as good as it gets right now...Smile

Christina

I'm coming to yours and we can have chicken & chips to dip in a vat of kfc gravy, washed down with vats of cremola.

Yummmmmmmmmmmmmeeeeeeeeeeee !

Sparklingbrook · 29/12/2015 21:35

I hope Jensen can get back towards the podium. He's split up with his wife. Sad

I also like to see if Geri Halliwell is lurking in the pits. Grin

SconeInSixtySeconds · 29/12/2015 21:37

My old name should clear up any wrong pronunciation of the word Scone - it doesn't work otherwise Wink

I love watching tennis. And if I had any co-ordination, ability, persistence or athleticism I would have been a true proficient

OddSocksHighHeels · 29/12/2015 21:38

KFC do gravy? Since when? I need some.

OddSocksHighHeels · 29/12/2015 21:39

Why have I got a square where the bookmark button normally is?

SconeInSixtySeconds · 29/12/2015 21:40

I love chip shop gravy. Proper food.

MrsVamos · 29/12/2015 21:40

I was shocked when I saw that about Jenson. Seems very odd. He's had a rough time the last couple of years, poor bloke.

Should never have been WC but he's a steady racer.

I wondered if he'd lose his seat and go for Plympic triathlons?

BearPursuedByAnExit · 29/12/2015 21:41

Regulars will be equated with Royalty.

Mark my words.

It is lush, Odd. Specially for dipping chips.

Chip shop curry gravy is very nice too.

Christinayangstwistedsista · 29/12/2015 21:41

odds

You mean you haven't dooked your chips in kfc gravy?

WorraLiberty · 29/12/2015 21:42

KFC have always done gravy and it's delicious.

Even after seeing a TV show about how it's made (which should have rightfully made me puke)

I still love it.

How many of us are still on MN Classic? I hear tell that some people have pages Shock.

I very sensibly followed usuals advice years ago to have the whole thread on the page in case I lost half a bunfight and it has made my MN experience a thing of beauty ever since.

MrsVamos · 29/12/2015 21:43

Aolpogies, Maryz. I mentioned the pics on another thread.
