Please

Please

PLEASE!

It is literally TWO people, out of the thousands registered here, who are ruining the Mumsnet thing for me - RUINING it, I say!

What are the chances of this being brought in?

Maryz I have a mental image of you rocking back and forth and writing 'HELP' in your own excrement Grin Grin

How far from the truth am I?

Mind you, that'll be me soon enough if I don't learn to stop pointlessly arguing just because I've got nothing better to do, at that given time Blush

But actually I think some people would take great delight in revealing their hidden lists, so would probably ask inane questions about missing Bishops on purpose.

The threads would make sense still, gf I am thinking off hasn't been caught adding anything other than gfery. Many would hide the same ones so chances anyone bites would be reduced.

Sparklingbrook · 22/11/2015 12:39

The merailers tend to cause long running dog with bone-esque bunfights. Which cause lots of clicks. It's all about the clicks so hiding posters not good from a business angle.

UnlikelyPilgramage · 22/11/2015 12:39

For example, if I hid sparkling from this thread (nothing personal obviously sparkling Grin) the thread would still make sense. But if for whatever reason she had been enraging me Wink I wouldn't be.

Bully!

reni2 · 22/11/2015 12:43

But hiding Worra, MaryZ or Lilac wouldn't work as well, you'd know they are here because others quoted or replied to them. Thread would still work though with either gone.

The problem is if you have a thread with all 5 of your gf hidees on, but you wouldn't be on that thread anyway.

It might work if what you say is interesting and funny and thoughtful.

So it wouldn't be for me Grin

Didn't someone write a little JavaScript addon a while back that would hide poster for you? I don't know if it still works, I never got around to trying it out.

slightlyglitterpaned · 22/11/2015 13:03

But basically we don't have to rely on MN to implement this. My knowledge of JavaScript is pretty rudimentary but I bet we could write one together - anyone up for learning JavaScript? Grin

Hide the posters as is or all their sock puppets usernames?

Hide everyone with the same IP address? Or just each poster as is, from multiple IPs? Some have fixed IP addys, some don't....

It's a bit of a nightmare, but could be done if you hid each poster as they came. You might find that all the posters you hate are indeed the same person.... using different sock puppets. Then you could nominate them as is and as they come.

Personally I can spot who's who even if they change their name during the thread... Posting styles are more difficult to change than names, and of course if they're sockpuppeting it's even easier to identify them

I think an unlimited hide poster function is an excellent idea and less work to manage from MN's point of view than a limited hide poster number.

BabyGanoush · 22/11/2015 13:08

If you feel so invested in the site you feel posters must be hidden, it's time to step back and have a break from MN

You can just not read posts by certain posters, idea?

Viviennemary · 22/11/2015 13:08

I can't see how on a site as large as MN how one poster can get on your nerves so much. On a small forum with a few posters yes. But if most people wanted this then fair enough. But somebody's bestest friend might be someone else's worst enemy.

VenusRising · 22/11/2015 13:09

It's a greasemonkey script extension we need if HQ don't want to do it.

VenusRising · 22/11/2015 13:11

Vivennemary, the block function would only work for your own personal preferences- you wouldn't be blocking for anyone else, just yourself.

One person's enemy could still be someone else's' friend, see?

IPityThePontipines · 22/11/2015 13:15

I can understand the desire to do this, but I think it would be unworkable in practice and possibly make the site more unpleasant.

I would much rather have a "hide threads by", or "hide threads with the word...." in them, especially the latter.
