If email addresses haven't been published should I still be worried?

My username, password and IP address is on the list.

I don't use the same username anywhere. My password is different on every website however I use similar passwords and someone with a brain probably could work out what my passwords for other sites were. But a computer programme wouldn't. But if they don't know my email address or username for another site does it matter?

I changed my passwords on other sites before changing my MN one.

If I hadn't, I would change them anyway I think.

I have been spammed - I had over 900 emails in my inbox this morning and as quickly as I was deleting them, more were popping up. I know it is linked to the hack because i registered here with a pretendy Christian name which is now appearing in the spam mails.

Therefore, they DO have your email address!

I use my email after years ago when HQ ballsed up and son of us ended up posting as other users for a few days.

So I'm screwed if I got phished.

I agree with Honey on the email thing. I am not on the list and I log in with my email address. I know that I logged in recently (frequently over the last week) as every time I came to MN I had been logged out.

I've namechanged since though, which makes me think that they've had this data for a little while, as I've been using 'Murloc' for a couple of weeks now since a family member came looking for me on here.

Namechange, password change, and I've just registered for a fake gmail account in a made up name and am using that now too. Fuckers.

If they had user names and passwords then surely they had access to e-mail addresses. If you use same password for both then that would be a problem.

tooold interesting as I can see you on the list I was sent a link to but can't see your email address anywhere. Not that I am trying to stalk you merely trying to work out if email addresses have been published.

I log in with username rather than email, am not on the list, have had my emails hacked, use a different password for emails than for MN. I assume that the hackers have accessed my email address from my account details (along with postcode, worryingly).

I have seen the infamous list and my email address (real name@blahblah) and MN password is in plain text - that pisses me off more than anything.

Email addresses are easy to find, so not blaming MNHQ, but in this instance, definitely related.

Well that's slightly cheering that the hackers or shits who just want to be a pita arse father than shits who want to sell details onto to dodgy folk.

I am fraught this morning, trying to sort my email account out and get rid of personal details.

My email address WAS NOT publicly published, but it HAS been accessed by the hackers.

When I registered here, I used a made up Christian name (cannot remember why, must have made sense at the time), it is a name I have never used before or since.

The spam mails I am receiving, if they have a name in them at all, it is this made up name. Therefore I KNOW where the address has come from.

I am really sorry for saying my address was out there, I just linked the obviousness in my head. My email address does contain my real name.

My email has a different password (although linked), now changed as well.

My email is made up of my name though so I might change my account and set up a new one with a less identifiable email...

They do know your email address because all they needed to do was log in as you and read it from your account details.

Well I'm hoping that with 3000 passwords published they won't have done that yet. I'm have obviously changed my password this morning.

your username plus email address opens you up to a hell of a lot of abuse if you've been unfortunate enough to be targeted by any of the extremist groups that have come in here in the past and set up 'shitlists' of mn users they dislike on other sites. which has happened before.
