I can't see where to put my not-that-exciting ramblings about red kites.

a dedicated wildlife topic would be handy Smile . It doesn't really go in pets / rural living / gardens.

I think there are a lot of wildlife-themed threads - nearly all of them in Chat. Maybe it'd be nice to have a place for wildlife things that would not be deleted. A lot of other new topics have been added lately...

"Does it matter if it doesn't get a lot of traffic? Some areas of the site just don't."

Yes, I think it does.

YonicScrewdriver · 20/06/2015 21:26

The reason there are a lot of wildlife themed threads in chat aren't because people pick that over "the great outdoors" or "science and nature" - it's because those topics never make it into active so no one knows about them. The same thing will happen to a wildlife topic.

Never know, it might really take off. Not sure how we find out unless we try.

I'd like to read some ramblings about red kites and I wouldn't mind having somewhere I can ramble myself about maybugs, moles and hornets!

GerundTheBehemoth · 21/06/2015 15:16

Maybe we need an organised campaign, like the yoga people. I would like a place to enthuse about the rare (and gorgeous) dragonfly species I saw the other day :D

Isyourclockorange · 21/06/2015 16:24

Oooh yes. Faced a bit of opposition, didn't they! Has everyone already buggered off to science and nature?

YonicScrewdriver · 21/06/2015 16:27

I am curious as to why you think Science and Nature Club isn't the right place for nature/wildlife posts?

IonaMumsnet · 21/06/2015 16:34

Afternoon! Yes, the Great Outdoors topic does seem to be largely populated with threads about camping and days out - though of course it can be for anything you want it to be. We are reading, so let us know what your thoughts are on splitting science and nature and what sort of topic you think would be useful in general for wildlifey stuff. We can't make any promises but we will promise to read and give everyone's opinions some thought.

Isyourclockorange · 21/06/2015 16:39

Thank you Iona! We will put our thinking caps on.

Yonic because it just seems very broad and largely irrelevant. Male pill next to bluetit family?

YonicScrewdriver · 21/06/2015 17:13

I just don't see the point of further splitting a topic that's already under visited when the title covers what you want it to. MNHQ would know better than I do but I expect a lot of people on mobiles navigate via Active which means popular topics get more popular.

What if you started putting nature things in science and nature then the split happened if it was clear there was enough nature interest?
