Can we have a "ghost post" option?

It's so annoying when the OP updates, says she'll be back to update and then you get pages and pages of "marking place!", "come back op!", "ooh what's happened?" etc etc

Can we have the option that when you write a post (like a place marking one) you can tick a box which marks it as a ghost post, then it doesn't actively show without being exposed - ie "there are 8 ghost posts - show all" - so you can still read them if you want but it doesn't interfere with the op's posts, and you don't have to scroll through hundreds of place-marking to find the op's updates?

adding to the watch-list doesn't work in the same way as place marking!

Bumpety bump

Hi QueenBean - thanks for your suggestion.

What does everyone else think?

RainbowFlutterby · 19/05/2015 13:35

There are too many numpties on here who think their posts are so witty, hilarious and important that they wouldn't tick the bloody box.

QueenBean · 19/05/2015 15:45

Rainbow Grin

What about an actual or invisible place mark then?

I think it is a good idea.

It is bad enough when it happens on a run-of-the-mill thread, but on some sensitive threads the place-marking is tactless and ghoulish. A ghost post option would be a good way around this.

TwerkingSpinster · 19/05/2015 15:51

Have a title under the triple dot drop down thing (where the report button is) and have a 'bookmark post' option.

Stillyummy · 19/05/2015 15:54

If there was a way of going to the last past you read when you watched a topic, that would be good.

DrankSangriaInThePark · 19/05/2015 16:00

The bookmark works on watched topics doesn't it?

My thought is that maybe people shouldn't get so invested in threads that their lives seemingly can't move on unless an OP comes back to update.

The joys of the anonymity of a forum like this is surely that people can choose whether to come back and tell complete strangers how the story panned out or not.

(though my empirical studies show that 9 times out of 10 when an OP doesn't come back, it's because of a hefty dose of creative writing that's gone on....Wink)

The "." and the are annoying enough, without legitimising them. Although a nice shocking pink highlighted klaxon going off might be useful.

gaggiagirl · 19/05/2015 16:00

But there is the bookmark option there. I use it all the time. I book my place on a thread then put it on my watch list. Can no one else do this?

gaggiagirl · 19/05/2015 16:01

Bookmark my place not
Book my place sorry

DrankSangriaInThePark · 19/05/2015 16:03

Yes, just checked. The bookmark works on watched threads as well.

Pispcina · 19/05/2015 16:23

Just use the 'watch thread' option?

QueenBean · 19/05/2015 18:33

The "watch thread" only works for the whole thread, not one specific post though - you still have to scroll
through millions of messages to get to anything relevant

OP posts:
RightSideOfWrong · 19/05/2015 18:35

There's bookmark, though. Which bookmarks the specific post you've read up too, whether or not you've posted.

So that would do exactly what place marking does, but without filling the thread with pointless messages...everyone's a winner?

dylsmimi · 19/05/2015 18:35

Is there an option that the op can be highlighted a different colour (like mums net are) so that you can scan quickly to see what the op says rather than lots of 'marking place' etc?

MonstrousRatbag · 19/05/2015 18:36

This already exists. You can opt to highlight OP's posts and your own.

YouMeddlingKids · 19/05/2015 18:37

If deletion messages worked the same on watched threads as they do on "threads i'm on" i think there'd be a lot less marking place posts.

SoupDragon · 19/05/2015 18:37

There already is!!

TurnOverTheTv · 19/05/2015 18:38

I just highlight the OP posts a different colour.

dylsmimi · 19/05/2015 18:42

Oh sorry Blush I didn't know
I haven't explored all options on my phone. To be honest I don't place mark anyway but maybe there is just something that my everyone using the site knows all the bits you can do??

TurnOverTheTv · 19/05/2015 18:46

You may only be able to do it on the desktop site

QueenBean · 19/05/2015 19:00

How do you bookmark a specific post? I'm on an iPhone and don't seem to be able to do it

OP posts:
HoggleHoggle · 19/05/2015 19:07

You click on the three dots at the bottom right of each post. An option will come up to mark place. I'm on an iPhone and do I constantly, it's the only way I can keep track.

QueenBean · 19/05/2015 20:43

This is what I can see when doing that

Can we have a "ghost post" option?
OP posts:
QueenBean · 19/05/2015 20:44

Ie no mark place option
