• what does this mean?? Is it that the poster has requested their own post be deleted or that someone else has?? I'm just intrigued and also nosey to know why!!

It means that the poster themselves have asked for the post to be removed. They need to have a good reason to ask this. It could be that they just ask for one particular badly thought out post to be removed or they may have a reason to want their whole posting history to be deleted.

I always 'read' that as the poster subsequently thinks they've put too much information about themselves and has requested the post - or thread - to be deleted. I don't think there's anything sinister about it at all.

I think it can be a variety of reasons. I once called someone by their RL name and had to request a deletion.

I've seen people post on the wrong thread and have it removed, peoples give too much information, people give wrong information - it can be for a whole range of things.

ThereIsACar afaik HQ considers every request on its merits, there is no blanket Yes to a post withdrawal request.

Yes, that's basically it DandyHighwayman. There usually needs to be a good reason for it. Often it's accidentally outing themselves in RL or posting something in the wrong place. If you ask nicely though (and send gin) we'll sometimes withdraw it if you've just been a daftie accidentally, as long as it doesn't ruin a thread for everyone else.

My stbexh found posts of mine and I had my posts deleted as a result

I started a thread 2 years ago about my brother, and someone else posted something about us being in Lincolnshire and HQ deleted that post and it says 'Message withdrawn at OPs request' which I certainly didn't request!

Ah. I've just looked that up, TheCunnyFunt. We were mindreading. You just hadn't thought it yet. We're THAT good... (or it might have been a typo and should have said 'poster's request' )
