I saw on a thread that an OP has been informed by MNHQ that her thread was reported and named the person /mnetter who reported it.
I never realised you told OP's who it was.

*Disclaimer it wasn't me by the way I generally say on the thread if I feel it warrants being reported Smile

Hullo Flossy

To be honest that doesn't really sound like something we'd do - can you fill us in a bit more? Please do mail us a link or explain in a report if you'd like the particulars would be better off the thread.

Hi everyone,

Thanks to everyone who brought this thread to our attention. We've looked into things our end, and it was an error on our part.

We've posted on the thread in question to explain what happened. Here's what we said:

"We've recently switched over to a new report system, and we're still getting to grips with aspects of it. On this occasion, we mailed you off the back of a report we'd received, and forgot to hide the report part of it, which unfortunately included the email address of the reporter.

Mumsnet is a post moderated site, and we actively encourage our posters to report anything they're not sure about. It happens all the time, and it's just how the site works.

We do take our posters' privacy and data security really seriously, we are so sorry that this happened, and we're taking steps to make sure it doesn't happen again."

Whilst we're here, we'd like to say that no-one should ever feel bad about being suspicious of a poster. We ask you to report and we always appreciate you telling us exactly what you think. Don't ever feel that you should hold back.

Bertie - we're just replying to your mail now.

It is a monumental cock-up and we're extremely sorry. For context, we deal with around 1000-2000 reports each week (sometimes more) without managing to divulge anyone's personal data to the wrong person, and so while this is a horrible error we'd like to reassure you all as much as possible that your details are safe with us. (I realise this sounds a bit like the swimming pool attendant from The Day Today )
