HELP! I need your support!

I have copied and pasted my original post along with the reply from Amy.

A guest speaker/poster/professional?

I am part of a thread discussing historical/personal accounts of sexual abuse and rape.
A few posters have posted about their negative experiences with the police. Obviously this is distressing and should never have happened to them but it does concern me that somebody reading the thread may be put off reporting a sex crime to the police.
Most of the posters on that thread have cited reasons for not reporting and not being believed/badly treated by the police was one of them.

I wonder if it would be possible for MNHQ to have a sexual abuse/rape officer do a blog or Q & A session where the process of reporting a sex crime can be discussed along with how the victim can expect to be treated. I just feel this maybe be a positive step towards people feeling they can report a sex crime and that they will be treated with dignity and respect no matter if it was a stranger/lover/husband or family member.

If MNHQ have already covered this then I apologise, I'm relatively new to the site.

Many thanks

Hi Dotty,

Starting a thread in site stuff is the best way to make a request. If it looks like there's a lot of interest in a certain guest then we'll do our best to get them to come along.

If you agree that this would be helpful and supportive can you please add your comments.

Many thanks Smile

Think this is a great idea OP, the more information about this the better

Vintagecakeisstillnice · 05/07/2014 11:55

Here to support too.

BigChocFrenzy · 05/07/2014 13:01

I support this.
Very important topic and Q&A with a specialist police officer is an excellent idea.

Please organise this, Mumsnet

EElisavetaofBelsornia · 05/07/2014 13:05

Adding my support, and agreeing to extend thisbto DV too.

GarlicJulyKit · 05/07/2014 15:08

Bump :) Also supporting recommendations about DV, child abuse and organised abuse. I like the idea of blog posts in addition to Q&A - easier to refer back to.

ShutTheFuckUpBarbara · 05/07/2014 16:30

Adding my support too, it is a very good idea!

Adding my support, thank you op.

Would it be possible if it goes ahead to have a permanent place where we could refer to it?

DottyDooRidesAgain · 05/07/2014 17:01

I would like to hope so.

It would also be great if we could use it to direct posters in need of that kind of information to. MNetters offer fantastic support to those in need but being able to direct them somewhere on the site would be a massive chunk of extra support.

Brilliant idea Dotty

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 05/07/2014 17:07

We had Keir Starmer, the previous DPP on recently but I agree that it would be great to have people to talk from the coal face about what victims have a right to expect from the process.

snakeandpygmy · 05/07/2014 17:19

Good idea

CwtchesAndCuddles · 05/07/2014 17:47

Great idea Dotty, you have my support as well!

BitterAndOnlySlightlyTwisted · 05/07/2014 19:16

Yep, this is a fantastic idea. I fully support it.

DottyDooRidesAgain · 05/07/2014 19:23

Thank you for everyone's support Grin

I'm not sure how much support I need before MNHQ will look in to it but I defiantly think it would be of great benefit for the site and those that use it.

Yes, this would be brilliant, and also that thread seems like such an important social document, I wonder if there is a way of it being preserved in some form, I realise that posters may have posted on the 30day rule but it has so much to communicate to those working in this area

glenthebattleostrich · 06/07/2014 19:48

Great idea

ReallyFuckingFedUp · 07/07/2014 20:15

great idea

ReadyisKnitting · 07/07/2014 20:22

This is a fantastic idea. Knowing what to expect would make reporting a more known process.

I agree with a pp, that demystifying domestic abuse/ leaving for a refuge.

DottyDooRidesAgain · 07/07/2014 20:29

Helloooo MNHQ

Is this enough support for you to consider it?

Would somebody please report this post so MNHQ see it as it feels a bit odd reporting myself Grin

Thank you all for your support. I really hope this happens and I think the addition of DV is fantastic and very worth while. Flowers Flowers
