I close it. I read a thread. I go back to the front page. It's back. I close it. I read another thread. I go back to the front page. It's back. I close it. I go somewhere else on the site. I go back to chat. It's back. I close it...

grr. It's bad enough having it appear once, but at least I thought I could close it, but it WON'T REMEMBER that I've closed it.

Is that the ad that keeps popping up on the bottom of the screen? I've got that on my active convos list but not in the actual thread. I'm on my iPhone.

yes, in blue, about mumsnet things rather than a general ad I think.

It seems to be related to whether I've used the back button to navigate or not (I normally do, as it's by far the quickest)

Hello there, that definitely seems amiss and sorry that must be v annoying.

Can you help us work out what's happening please? When you say front page... do you mean the home page of mumsnet.com or of talk? or Active maybe?

Also, were you always logged in and on the same device?

Finally, do you recall what the slider was reminding about? We have a couple running so we're keen to identify the culprit.

I get that too, it's a pain in the backside trying to hit the X to close it on a small phone screen.

Mine was about politics I think, and on active convos and any thread I click on (using iPhone, I never log out)

It was the main page of Chat, and I think the slider was about politics today (miscarriage the other day)

I'm getting it too. Every time I go onto active convos. Its about politics.

Came up when I was browsing active convos - about asking politicians questions or something. Its rather annoying - obscures bottom right hand of page.

Me too, about asking questions of women politicians I think.

It's not annoying me though!

I have got this now on the mobile site. It's on active convo's and appears every time I go on the page regardless of how many times I have hit the cross. Which is tricky to do on my mobile.

It's popping up on active conversations about politics.....

iPhone here. Mobile site. Bottom page of active conversations and everytime I'm on active conversations it reappears.

Yes just to confirm we're testing that slider out on chat to try to identify the problem so you may see it for the next little while.

Please try closing it and let us know if it appears again for you.

It's basically impossible to use the back button now. You can close the slider all you like, but if you navigate from page to page via the back and forward buttons, rather than clicking specific links like 'talk' etc, then it just keeps re-appearing. And if you are on a slower connection, it is much, much more convenient to use the back button to get back to a page of thread titles than it is to reload them each time. This will get seriously annoying if there isn't a way to sort it out!!

Today's irritation is about PMQs.

We think we've identified the problem and you're quite right it seems to be browser specific and to do with the back button. Sorry you were irritated today.

Tech are working on a way to fix it asap. We shall ply them with extra cake and encouragement.

well cake ought to be a good incentive, so here's hoping...

Not sure that even at the best of times sliders are likely to do anything but make me close them to get them away, but presumably someone, somewhere, thinks that they will be good adverts!

Is there an opt out for sliders? I don't do stickies and I don't want to do sliders either please.
