schoolsgettingonmynerves · 18/06/2014 14:02

Some of the responses to posts are hilarious and I just want to show that person that I agree!

Come on mumsnet team it's a no brainer! Smile

Add the word 'agree' if you'd like to see that! (See if there was a like button it would be soooo much easier...)

Are we having a cunt button now? We could call it a clitoris.

schoolsgettingonmynerves · 19/06/2014 09:17

How did I start this thread to deliberately inflame!!! I had no idea this had been debated before!!!

Seriously I didn't realise a like button would honestly send you guys crazy.

LineRunner · 19/06/2014 09:18

And not just crazy. MN crazy.

HaroldLloyd · 19/06/2014 09:18

Well you are being somewhat antagonistic, you cunt.

ExitPursuedByABear · 19/06/2014 09:20

That is one massive extrapolation?

differentnameforthis · 19/06/2014 09:20

This is not facebook. We do not need a like button

schoolsgettingonmynerves · 19/06/2014 09:22

Now you're really cooking harold!

OP posts:
HaroldLloyd · 19/06/2014 09:23

I'm doing that flicky thing with my fingers and feeling well hard.

KoalaFace · 19/06/2014 09:24

Oooh Exit extrapolation!

I feel like I'm in a court room drama! I'm seeing you in a powersuit, heavy on the shoulderpads and the eyeliner.

I object! I want the truth!

RebeccaMumsnet · 19/06/2014 09:27

Blimey, what went on here and who broke Facebook?

LumieresForMe · 19/06/2014 09:28

I was thinking the same OP re a LIKE button.

There are plenty of threads where I can read someone posts and think 'oh yes that is exactly that' but I don't bother posting because you know... The point has already been made and 15 other posters have said more it less the same thing already. What would be the point of me adding the same again?

There are also plenty if lurkers on here. Would the 'like' button not actually encourage them to show their interest and their pov?

But I also like the other buttons proposed Grin

LumieresForMe · 19/06/2014 09:30

What about another name for that button if people are so against the 'like' one as it is too much like Facebook?

TheFairyCaravan · 19/06/2014 09:32

The thread has somewhat derailed, but no I wouldn't like a "like" button, thanks!

WhizzPopBang · 19/06/2014 09:33

Aside from the FB-ness of a like button, a huge proportion of MN's topics & threads are serious in nature, often people at their wits end looking for help, and posters' responses are equally serious. Where does a like button fit in?

Eg "I too was married to a violent alcoholic, after he beat me I finally left and went to a shelter, slowly I rebuilt my life"... "Like"? You may like the fact the poster succeeded in leaving, but it's a wholly inappropriate way of showing it. Which leaves AIBU and maybe chat as being "lighthearted" enough, and therefore kind of pointless as it's only a tiny portion of the site.

HaroldLloyd · 19/06/2014 09:34

How about "i concur"

TheCheckerdyHorse · 19/06/2014 09:35

I think it would offer a step forward for lurkers who are afraid to post. After they'd pressed Like a few times and not been massacred, they might find the courage to start posting.

TheCheckerdyHorse · 19/06/2014 09:37

A Concur button would be great.

It could mean "I am a dog like you."

ExitPursuedByABear · 19/06/2014 09:53

I feel the same way about FB likes. A friend had posted that it was 10 years since her son was stillborn and people ' liked' it. I told her I just couldn't do it but she told me I was over thinking it. It might be an age thing.

Mammuzza · 19/06/2014 09:55

I think a like button could work in terms of replaceing acknowledgement/agree posts.

However without limits in place it is open to abuse. Outside forces doing an "Irritate MN" run could use it to their advantage for example.

If on the other hand there was a "per poster" limit, say no more than five likes a day permitted per poster, it's potential for abuse/changing the face of MN is vastly reduced and a trial run could happen without too may risks.

People would have to REALLY like a single post to "spend" one of their likes, which should avoid a posse following a poster around liking ever bit of drivel that came out of their keyboard, just becuase they are on the same side of the bunfight argument.

And there should but a way to click on accumulated likes under a post to see who is doing the liking.

No stealth liking of opinions you'd rather not have associated with your username publically.

The obvious disadvantage of a like limit based on time is that earlier on in the timeframe people might be reluctant to "spend" their likes, in case something better comes along later when they are "likes" skint. But... nothing is perfect, and I suppose you could always go back and retrospectively "like".

Mammuzza · 19/06/2014 09:57

How about "i concur"

I concur.

I think that makes far more sense than "like".

CelibacyCakeandElevatorMuzac · 19/06/2014 10:00

Introducing the Like button is one step away from glittery tickers.

We already have pictures (which should only ever be used for pets or insults) and that's as close to the Nethuns format as I'm comfortable with.

ExitPursuedByABear · 19/06/2014 10:01

^^this Wink

Fenton · 19/06/2014 10:02

The OP sounds like a 12 year old who's just learnt to swear.

How very tiresome.

CelibacyCakeandElevatorMuzac · 19/06/2014 10:05

^^ what Fenton said Grin
