Are MN going to fix the android app?

tumbletime · 22/04/2014 21:02

I'm wondering if MN are working o fixing the issue with the android app that has been raised be others but never seems to get any response. The issue is the sponsored discussions continually building up in the active list with the only way of reducing them being that you have to log out then in again. Annoying enough in itself but then when I do log back in even though my 'reading direction' still says it's like a book it actually isn't and the only way to solve it is to flip direction then flip it back again. There must be a way of only having the usual 4 or 5 sponsored discussions as it is on the desktop site so please could it be fixed if you're not already in the process of doing so? I know it's not a major issue but it is increasingly annoying.

Totally agree

tumbletime · 22/04/2014 21:09

Thanks maud glad it's not just me being a total nit picker!

mummy1973 · 22/04/2014 21:23

Yes please fix.

poocatcherchampion · 22/04/2014 21:48

yep. please do. (although I've seen lots of references to Them Not Caring about this)

tumbletime · 22/04/2014 21:52

yeah poocatcher whenever I've seen someone else mention the problem it just seems to get ignored so I'm not holding out much hope but it would be nice if they realise it is annoying users and try to fix it. Will see what happens!

Please don't ignore us app users.
I really really love Mumsnet but this bugs me - grrrrrr.

Youdontneedacriminallawyer · 23/04/2014 10:44

Glad it's not just me then. The app also doesn't colour code the posts, so you can see which are by OP and which are your own posts. And it screws up things like signs.

ThatsMyOnlyShirt · 23/04/2014 11:03

Glad i'm not the only one. Newish to MN & didn't want ask about the vast amount of sponsored posts.

tumbletime · 23/04/2014 14:42

I'm guessing we're being ignored unfortunately as you have to assume they look at site stuff otherwise what would be the point in having the topic and it's not a high traffic area so this has been near the top since posting it. Disappointed at the lack of response/acknowledgement of the problem by MN.

I echo what everyone else has said. I also have difficulties reading long threads, only a page or so of posts will load.

pootlebug · 23/04/2014 14:51

Yes, please fix it!

HoldOnHoldOnSoldier · 23/04/2014 14:54

Yes please fix it.

Tweetinat · 23/04/2014 14:56

I agree - both in that it needs a fix and that they're ignoring posts complaining about anything to do with the app. I started a post when I couldn't get the app to work on my android and the helpful answer was 'use the mobile site'. well if there's an app I bloody want to be able to use it! since then there's been a few official posts stating that they're working on a new app - but it will be a paid for version. I expect that they're focusing on the cash cow rather than supporting the 'free' version. Envy Envy

trikken · 23/04/2014 15:02

Tried using the app but its soo awkward. Mine never updates and can see really old threads in active. The whole thing is a bit clumsy.

SparklyMonkeyMummy · 23/04/2014 15:24

I am so relieved it's not just me who has this issue! I hate it, I now scroll through about 8 pages before I get to active conversations (logging out and back in doesn't sort mine). It is also really annoying the way that the posts aren't colour coded.

msrisotto · 23/04/2014 15:53

Paid for version? Is that a joke? Nothing else about mn is paid for.

tumbletime · 23/04/2014 16:04

Oh I hope there doesn't end up being a paid for version as then those who already have the free version get forgotten about (although think that may already be the case anyway!) and the app never gets updated etc and in time becomes useless! That would be frustrating as I never really get apps that you have to pay for and probably wouldn't choose to pay for a MN one either so will end up just having to use the website which would be a shame as an app is much more convenient and user friendly!

Tweetinat · 23/04/2014 17:08

Yep, definitely a paid for version in the works. Apparently there will still be a free one too but if I remember with ads. Will see if I can find the thread...

msrisotto · 23/04/2014 17:14

Oh bollocks to that.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 23/04/2014 17:17

As far as I remember MN said that they had paid someone else to do the app, and as it is not in house is slow/difficult/expensive to update.

What they should do is produce an API or an open source app - I'm sure some mners can program and could do a good job.

Tweetinat · 23/04/2014 17:31

Here you go, this should link to Justine's comment on the new app (although as I'm using the app I can't create a clickable linky - argh!)

So it seems I was half right - a paid app is being developed but no free app - just an updated mobile site with 'app functionality'. ConfusedConfusedConfused

SingSongSlummy · 23/04/2014 17:51

This issue had stopped me from using the app now as it was driving me crazy. I now use the browser site instead on my Android.

Redcoats · 23/04/2014 17:55

Use the mobile site instead. It's a million times better and hardly any ads (just a banner at the top).

stealthsquiggle · 23/04/2014 17:56

I suspect a paid for app will be self-funding at best, rather than a "cash cow". I for one would pay (assuming we are talking a couple of quid, which would be normal app pricing) as a one off, rather than have to use the mobile site.

Not sure I would buy it for both tablet (iOS) and phone (android), though [spoilt]
