Morning everyone,
We're overwhelmed by your fabulous support and energy - you've been amazing. Think we're not doing too badly at getting this freedom of speech issue out there don't you? (We particularly enjoyed MorningPaper's retraction.)
Look out for BBC, ITV lunchtime news, C4 at noon and London Tonight today.
And thanks to everyone who's written to us. I'm really sorry that we've not been able to get back to everyone individually - it's only me and Olivia here this week as all the gals are off sunning themselves (great timing!) (Am sending regular text updates though) - and as you can imagine we're a bit up to our eyes.
Many folks have asked what they can do to help further. While we are extremely anxious that this should not become a campaign against Gina Ford, if you have strong views on the law and freedom of speech issues involved you could write to: other websites, your newspaper, your MP, the Law Commission, the Lord Chancellor, the Home Secretary.
A Mumsnetter, wannaBe1974, has also set up a petition here . We'll be in touch if we think there are any other useful things you may be able to do to help.

Thanks again for all your support.
MNHQ

Justine

Can I ask if the publicity has caused a huge increase in mumsnetters? Think its great if this actually makes mumsnet even stronger.

fullmoonfiend · 08/08/2006 10:53

do you need us to set up a fighting fund? Or should people just sign up for CAT?? Let us know, we can sort it

Pisces · 08/08/2006 11:02

I think that what the MN's have done is tremendous. I shall be mostly watching the TV today then Justine!

Good luck!

Marina · 08/08/2006 11:03

So pleased that you are getting lots of on-side media coverage on the internet and freedom of speech issue, Justine. We can all take it forward with our MPs, I certainly intend to.
Huge sympathies on the fort-holding though. Have been the "only one at home" during a monstrous August press story before now and it is not nice.

SlightlyFamiliarPeachyClair · 08/08/2006 11:05

Well, MN has been supporting us for years

Just returning the favour

welshmum · 08/08/2006 11:08

Good luck Justine, you're doing a grand job. MN is a national treasure.

WorldFamousAuthor · 08/08/2006 11:10

excellent news for people power!

zippitippitoes · 08/08/2006 11:11

Good Luck..I think the freedom speech issue is very important and this site is important in offering such diverse opinions on such a wide range of topics

like i said on the other thread, just because someone expresses their opinion, that doesnt mean that s the right way to go..its thier opinion not a fact..think this situation has spiralled and if it wasnt for the serious consequence it could hold for MN it would be laughable for someone to take something so seriously, if you are that sure of yourself and your 'policies' why would a couple of mums who dont agree rock your boat? very at it all

Mascaraohara · 08/08/2006 11:25

MNHQ, Sorry you have so much going on! I think the publicity for MN so far looks very positive.. MN will come out of this stronger and more united than ever.

zippitippitoes · 08/08/2006 11:26

justine on five live radio now

Mascaraohara · 08/08/2006 11:26

grrrr having to work - can't listen

Bugsy2 · 08/08/2006 11:33

Thank you Justine. Delighted that you are pleased with the press coverage. Will be signing the petition and continuing to deluge everyone I can think of with letters about the freedowm of speech issue involved here.
Fingers crossed for you & Mumsnet.

DH woke me just in time this morning as it was mentioned on R4! Hoping this all goes away real soon so we can continue to enjoy our time on MN.

alexsmilitantmum · 08/08/2006 11:37

have just been explaining to a non mumsnet friend what has been going on.her imediate response was 'has she got a new book out?'

i wonder?????

edam · 08/08/2006 11:40

Hey Justine, bloody well done - loved your quotes in the press coverage.

morningpaper · 08/08/2006 12:05

You are most welcome to make my retraction public

I profusely apologise to anyone I may have offended

I would hate to think that there are many confused new mothers out there sitting at home surrounded by nappies, breast pumps and ballistic missiles

Funnily enough, after I had typed that post, I thought "Oh no! I have crudely assumed Israel as the agressor and someone is bound to take offence!"

Oh foolish morningpaper

babydriver · 08/08/2006 12:09

Keep up the good work Justine and the MN team. This site is far too valuable a resource to be lost to this ridiculous complaint.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 08/08/2006 12:14

I dont know what to say, I'm totally overwhelmed with positveness though

edam · 08/08/2006 12:20

Hey Justine, fab interview on Ch4 news. But might be worth stressing you did take down any comments she complained about as fast as you could.

Amiable · 08/08/2006 12:25

Justine, just saw the C4 interview - well said. We're all behind you.

MrsRichardHammond · 08/08/2006 12:27

well done justine on all your interviews! I came over and joined mumsnet as a result of all this happening and a plea going up on Bounty.com Just to let you know all of us on there are supporting you 110% and anything further we can do we'll be there all the way.

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 08/08/2006 12:29

Well Done Justine.
