Hi, i found this site via Bounty and have to be honest it's so confusing! So many forums, my brain hurts trying to work out where to go and what to look at. It might be it takes some getting used to, and if anyone can help great, but i also dont think the set up and lay out helps much. Sorry. One very confused bountier and potential mumsnetter.

Why don't you try clicking on the ACTIVE CONVERSATIONS all topics link (Second row of type down after the logo) for an overview?

hulababy · 07/08/2006 12:56

Start with Active Conversations (all topics)
You'll then get the most recent threads on MN at the moment.
Click on a thread title and read away

To start new topics, go in via Find discusssions (By topic)

You are right though - a lot of threads. Mumsnet is a very active site during the day.

Think MN uses one of the most simplest forum styles there is, so it really is very easy once you have been here a couple fo times or so.

HuwEdwards · 07/08/2006 12:56

it's just a different site and takes a bit of getting used to - like walking into a diff supermarket and not know ing where the beans are

serenity · 07/08/2006 12:59

I like your name (welcome btw)

RH is small, but perfectly formed.

schneebly · 07/08/2006 13:00

welcome - I hope you can get your head round the different format and stick around!

ScummyMummy · 07/08/2006 13:10

Bump- if you're following advice below you should now see this thread near the top. Any luck?

prettybird · 07/08/2006 13:15

I found it confusing too at first (came here from babyworld many moons ago) but now much prefer the fact that you can see the whole conversation (unlike Babyworld which had new replies to ndiviual postings, so you had to keep on hopping backwards and forwards).

The fact that the "oldest" posting is at the bottom is confusing at first, although you can "flip" the thread if yuo want, so that the most recent is first and you can read "downwards". In practice, once you have been using the board for a while, you like the fact that the most recent post is first, so that you can quickly see any update.

Iused to use the "last hour" or "last day" links, as they give you a few words from the beginnings of the posts, but I found that "last hour" wasn't enough and "last day", now that the dicssion board is so active, was way too much. So, I now just use "active conversations" - and also "threads I'm on"

MrsRichardHammond · 07/08/2006 13:23

Thanks ladies.

Im getting there lol

Finally found the bit at the top you were all mentioning and now it's a bit easier!

I think i might stick around if you dont all mind!

Tortington · 07/08/2006 13:27

i click - last hour ( cos if owts kicked off it will still be raging )

All topics is bob imo - in fact when people were going on about active conversations i never new what the crap they were on about.

Rhubarb · 07/08/2006 13:28

My sister joined recently and she did say that she found MN to be offputting because no-one replied to a few threads she started and everyone seemed to know each other - she felt a little left out. I can see why that would happen but I don't know how MN can appear "friendlier" for newbies.

SlightlyFamiliarPeachyClair · 07/08/2006 13:29

Feel welcome!

It does get easier to find your way around (as a- ahem- addiect I use the last hour bit now, as I'll have seen anything else )

it's a good site with a lot of camaraderie, characters and the odd drama- much like RL!

zippitippitoes · 07/08/2006 13:31

in the address bar you can change last 60 to last 200 which if you log on in the morning at say 9.00am covers last evenings later posts pretty well and during the day it is a quick way to scroll through a couple of hours!

MrsRichardHammond · 07/08/2006 13:32

cheers! It sounds like it has a lot of similarities to Bounty then (the site i mainly use!)

Don't hold back we love a bit of gossi.... I mean to hear about newbies.

Oh yes... there's an acronym bit as well

DH dear/darling husband
DP dear/darling partner
DS dear....son
DD dear....daughter
DT dear....twin

etc etc........... Enjoy!

MrsRichardHammond · 07/08/2006 13:40

cool you have the same acronyms as we do on Bounty then! don't think theres much different is there except the layout and sheer numbers of forums on here!

OP posts:
SlightlyFamiliarPeachyClair · 07/08/2006 13:42

But on the other site, do you have blue cheese themeed threads???????

LOL

flutterbee · 07/08/2006 13:45

The best thread at the moment MrsRichard Hammond is the one titled "possibly as embarressing as you can get" or something like that.

I think that should break you in gently (pardon the pun)

MrsRichardHammond · 07/08/2006 13:45

lol no not quite but we do talk about some random things! lol

OP posts:
SlightlyFamiliarPeachyClair · 07/08/2006 13:46
