"By carriemumsnet on Wednesday, 2 August, 2006 1:37:55 PMHi all

We're following this discussion with interest and while we're pretty committed to keeping Talk an open and public forum we are planning a site revamp in the not too distant future so please continue to add your thoughts to this thread and we'll make sure we add it to our list of things to discuss.

All the best MNHQ "

zippitippitoes · 03/08/2006 10:34

yes I was wondering that...then thought maybe I was being too suspicious
glad to see I'm not alone

southeastastra · 03/08/2006 10:49

maybe they're changing from blue to a nice pink colour

Xena · 03/08/2006 10:50

What is the thread that they are watching?

Salamander · 03/08/2006 10:52

maybe they will censor naughty words?

nutcracker · 03/08/2006 10:52

Another one that was wondering here too.

Doesn't sound too good IMO.

Salamander · 03/08/2006 10:53

I have to say this is the best message thread board i've ever used
it's instinctive and user friendly
not fussy at all

i hope they don't change that in the 'revamp'

i noticed the search page has changed slightly - much easier it is too

NotOliveoil · 03/08/2006 10:53

what on earth are you all on about?

I can't read anything at all from this.

TambaIsBadBadBad · 03/08/2006 10:54

I like MN the way it is.

But saying that, no one ever really likes change, and although we would probably whine about whatever changes are made at first, we would soon get used to them and it would become normal.

Well I suppose if I owned mumsnet I'd want it (as a business) to get bigger and bigger and whilst debate is imperative, I'd probably be concerned about the recent spate of people getting offended on here. If you were just visiting for the first time and you came accross a thread about fruitshoots, and you had given them to your child in the past without realising that they were full of sugar and additives, you may feel that if you joined that you would not fit in and that you would be chastised for your parenting methods. Not very attractive in a parenting forum really, we are supposed to offer support and information, not condemnation.
If I was MNHQ would be looking to protect my business somehow without being to censorious(if that is even a word). So I'm not suprised that they are considering changing things a bit.

Salamander · 03/08/2006 11:00

I think they might install moderators on certain threads, such as the SN ones.

FullOfTestosterone · 03/08/2006 11:02

I guess it depends who they are trying to attract...
I am not a business woman, but there is value in getting a certain group of people not just numbers of people, ISWIM...

I feel like MN has a very different and interesting group of people. I always wonder what assempled that way... and I guess it is a self selection process.

Anyway, I have visited many other forums but never stayed in any other one. I stay here because I find the people here really interesting, with real opinions. I think if everybody just patt my hand all the time, I wouldn't bother... there are a lot of other sites where this is possible, and they didn't attract me...

just my two pence worth...

zippitippitoes · 03/08/2006 11:06

I'm hoping it doesn't get a more commercial look tbh

I think it has broadened out it's range of users so presumably that is the direction?

I like Mumsnet!

JustineMumsnet · 03/08/2006 11:25

Don't worry all, we're not planning anything radical (especially not to Talk - we know that on the whole folks appreciate it's simplicity). We do have a few ideas for new features and better functionality though. Plus in our recent census (we'll publish the results as soon as we've got a few more folks back from their hols at Mumsnet Towers) we asked what else folks would like to see on Mumsnet and there were some good thoughts to come out of that.

As soon as Tech's checked out the feasibility and we've something to show you we'll run it by you but rest assured we shall consult every step of the way and there is no sea-change afoot. In the meantime do continue to let us know your thoughts on how Mumsnet could improve, what you like and what you don't etc. Oh and please don't fret, we are not talking avatars or tickers here .

Spagblog · 03/08/2006 11:27

phew!

Although 1hr 3mins and 20secs until I change my mooncup would look great on a ticker

Carmenere · 03/08/2006 11:27

Phew

Salamander · 03/08/2006 11:29

Thanks for clarifying Justine!

MN is a great site - the Talk section is brilliant simplicity.

Looking forward to hearing the ideas
