When posts are reported for trolling or spam...

Do MNHQ cross check to see if the poster (s) have posted elsewhere on other topics, or wait for reports to come in individually?

Understand if TSSDNCOP though.

I'm sure that MNHQ does a 'cross-check' Sparkling.

Anyone who works with a database professionally does it.

Terrortree · 24/01/2014 20:03

Probably a daft questions but when posts are reported, do MNHQ normally acknowledge the reporter?

There was two sick comments made on a very sad thread yesterday, which I reported, but I don't know if MNHQ got them.

I've never reported before so I don't know the form.

NymodigFruOla · 24/01/2014 21:16

If you're just reporting spam, they don't acknowledge it.

But if you're reporting a sick/goady/etc post/thread, they usually do acknowledge it - by email to you. But I'm guessing if they've had multiple reports, then they might not as they'll probably delete the post/thread anyway.

Have you noticed that those posts have now been deleted?

CatherineMumsnet · 25/01/2014 17:16

Hi OP, if a poster is reported to us then we check them out. We can't give out much more info than that we're afraid

ItsATIARA · 25/01/2014 17:22

I report quite frequently. Spam reports don't get a response, but more substantive reports get a nice thank you email saying "yes, we've deleted", "no, we've thought about it and we think it should stay / no evidence that it's a troll", or "we'll keep an eye on it but leave it for now". If loads of people have reported then they send out a mass email to all of them.

DameDeepRedBetty · 25/01/2014 17:24

I've never not had an email from HQ about anything I've reported. (apart from spam).

It's rather nice, makes me feel valued.

Sparklingbrook · 25/01/2014 19:11

Thanks CatherineMNHQ I did think that was probably the case and totally understand the nose tapping. Wink Grin

What's nice is that the reply never says "you're an utter loon to think there even a smigeon of a problem with that", but rather "thank you for your report, we'll look into that",

Terrortree · 25/01/2014 21:00

Okay, guess MNHQ were just busy or I didn't report correctly (?!?!?!) as I did two yesterday and didn't hear anything. Not to worry.

We did reply both times Terrortree (I've just checked). Is it possible that the email address associated with your MN account is out of date? Or maybe we've gone in to your spam folder?

Terrortree · 25/01/2014 21:38

Hi Rowan,

Sorry I didn't mean to generate actual work for you.

In fact I stand corrected (am standing as I type by way of apology). Indeed you are in my junk folder (now hiding under a table).

No offence intended!

RowanMumsnet · 25/01/2014 22:05

No worries - we just don't like people to think we haven't replied (unless it was a spam report, which won't always get a response) cos we usually do try to. But our replies to you here were part of mass replies to many recipients (much-reported troll posts) so looks like your email program thought we were spamming you!
