Perhaps it's time to suspend new registrations, MNHQ?

You reap what you sow, I fear.

Since penisbeaker, and SheffieldGuy, both of which were widely touted by Mumsnet themselves, we have had an influx of dubious posters.

Another couple of blokes looking for sex today, plus one persistent odious racist poster.

Would you consider suspending the ability of people to register until this all dies down?

Of course, that would also preclude anyone in need of help and support from joining, which would be a terrible shame.

And please stop linking and promoting such dubious posts/posters. It doesn't do anyone here any favours.

Yup.

ISeeYouShiverWithAntici · 11/01/2014 20:10

Oh god yes please.

that would be a really good idea tonight with that racist fuckwit who wont piss off.

stargirl1701 · 11/01/2014 20:10

Agreed.

magimedi · 11/01/2014 20:11

And please, please, pull these posts far quicker than you have been doing.

You are a big enough site now to have 24/7 moderators for this purpose.

HepsibarCrinkletoes · 11/01/2014 20:11

Good call BIWI.

LurkingNineToFive · 11/01/2014 20:11

The racist was worse. Fucking disgusting. I don't understand why it takes so long to get deleted.

Mograt · 11/01/2014 20:11

Hear hear. Every type of raving idiot seems to be here tonight.

ToffeeWhirl · 11/01/2014 20:11

Oh, but I did feel sorry for poor Sergei from Russia. He had a big lonely, you know.

Mograt · 11/01/2014 20:13

And the Solihull Stripper is still here toting his 'wares'. I'm even becoming suspicious of bonafide posts now!

Mograt · 11/01/2014 20:14

Toting = touting

BIWI · 11/01/2014 20:15

What happened to the idea of 'amateur' mods? People who could support the MNHQ team? I don't see much changing at the weekend - it seems to take an age for posts to be deleted.

ISeeYouShiverWithAntici · 11/01/2014 20:15

I think they need to change their report options.
have some options that push a report to the top of the queue.

GroupieGirl · 11/01/2014 20:18

I don't agree - suspending registration is an overreaction to a few idiots on a public site. The way to deal with these idiots is to ignore (not that I always do), report, and hope that mnhq figure out a way of dealing with reports quicker.

CecyHall · 11/01/2014 20:18

The time it takes to be actions does seem to be very long. It worries me that really concerning and unsuitable things could be posted and not removed causing distress.

navada · 11/01/2014 20:19

Can posters tell the site owners how to run their site?

The time it takes to be actions does seem to be very long. It worries me that really concerning and unsuitable things could be posted and not removed causing distress.

Another forum I used removed reported posts (not the whole threads) automatically until they were looked at but that was a smaller forum and lots of people said it was unfair. But it stopped people having to look at things that broke the rules and stopped people feeding the trolls.

hazeyjane · 11/01/2014 20:19

Everything that BIWI said.

It is depressing that within minutes of being banned, the racist gobshite is back.

BIWI · 11/01/2014 20:19

We can and we always do, navada! Grin

OP posts:
AhoyMcCoy · 11/01/2014 20:21

Agreed. I thought the responses from the Sheffieldguy thread were witty and smart and can understand why MN publicised it.

However, after PBgate I think they should realise that publicising threads like this will lead to an immediate influx of new posters- some of who have dubious intentions, and they should have the extra staff there ready to deal with that.

I reported one of the racist threads, which had 15+ posts of other people saying 'reported'. It was still there for almost half an hour I think.

Whiskwarrior · 11/01/2014 20:21

Can I please ask for the name of this racist poster? I'm looking forward to meeting them Wink. I like a tussle with a good racist, me.

It can be pm'ed to me, if that helps.

navada · 11/01/2014 20:22

Grin fair enough Biwi.
but I feel it is a little harsh as it would stop people registering who may need help & support.

HyvaPaiva · 11/01/2014 20:23

I don't agree about registration suspension, that's a bit heavy-handed.

I just reported the latest looking-for-sex one. MNHQ links to these threads on Facebook and get in the Daily Mail. I'm not going to tell site owners how to run the site. I'm just going to say that Mumsnet is becoming really trashy because of all of this.

ISeeYouShiverWithAntici · 11/01/2014 20:23

No, but we can say what we like/dont like and what we would want and since they only make money because advertisers want access to us, it is in their business interests to keep us happy.
if enough of us want a particular thing -anything - enough, then they will listen. We are actually their product. Without users, advertisers will not advertise.
its a matter of numbers of course. 1 or 2 or 5 or 10 people are not going to matter. But enough will.

BoreOfWhabylon · 11/01/2014 20:24

Well, if things go on the way they have this evening the site will be unusable when MNHQ log off for the night.

QuintessentialShadows · 11/01/2014 20:25

Maybe time MNHQ was a little bit selective in what they TWEET?
