What is with the random redirect to porn?

Ok maybe not open but twice now I have been reading a thread and my browser has redirected to a site selling vibrators and dildos! The same site both times! Confused

The first time was yesterday and I presumed I had managed to click a random link somehow. It's just done it again whilst I was reading a thread and not actually touching my phone!

Not porn*

Do you have a virus? That sounds really odd.

PinkLemons · 05/01/2014 14:29

No virus and only happened on MN Confused

I live in a strict Muslim country and all even slightly dodgy sites are banned and firewalled. I not even sure how it's hot passed the firewall!

I've never had that. Sounds like a virus to me.

imaluckylady · 05/01/2014 14:32

Exactly the same thing has happened to me - via the guardian website. And to my DH this morning via the Guardian. Sounds like the same site

PinkLemons · 05/01/2014 14:44

It's not possible to get a virus on an iPhone is it? I took a screenshot of the site if MNHQ want me to email a copy? The site appears to sell all manner of items and even recognises that I am in the UAE. In the search tab it has "sex toys" typed as if I have done a search. I didn't navigate the site. BTW, I am only looking at the screenshot!

Crikey, we hope this isn't coming from our site! If you could email us any screenshots you have that would be great.

EBearhug · 05/01/2014 15:44

It's possible to get a virus on any piece of computer equipment that connects to a network, and that includes iPhones. It's more common on some operating systems than others, but nothing is completely immune.

PinkLemons · 05/01/2014 18:27

I've emailed the screen shot to MNHQ. I've never had anything like this before Confused

I'm pretty sure it isn't my phone. I'll settle down with the iPad and see if it happens on there too...

I'm in the UAE and had exactly the same problem on the ipad several times whilst on MN over the last week. So glad it's not just me!

AmyMumsnet · 06/01/2014 14:21

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the screenshot. We've spoken to tech and they say it's almost certainly adware or a virus on your computer. Sorry, that's probably not what you were hoping to hear, but it might be worth running a virus scan to see if it catches anything.

Hi PinkLemons,

Sorry about this, we had reports of this redirecting AliExpress ad last week and blocked it, unfortunately it looks like it's slipped through the net again. Can you confirm what device this is happening on? An iPhone?

Colette

ColetteTech · 06/01/2014 16:59

Hi All,

Can you let me know if this is still happening? We've put in a fix and I'm hoping this has done the trick. Hmm

Colette

FrauEnglischLehrerin · 09/01/2014 10:40

Just happened (again) to me. Using the desktop site on an ipad.

Fark · 10/01/2014 15:52

It's been happening to me too. On iMac, iPhone and iPad.

crabb · 13/01/2014 05:23

I had the AliExpress redirect issue last week - that seems to be fixed, but now the same thing is happening again but I'm being redirected to Candy Crush on the App Store. This happens on threads where there's an ad for Candy Crush at the bottom of the page. I'm on an iPhone using the mobile site.

Jacksmania · 13/01/2014 05:25

I'm on my iPhone and about a dozen times now, without me touching the screen, the Safari screen went away and the App Store screen came on with an app for some kind if a war game. Only when I'm on MN. I thought it was my phone until I saw this thread. It's been happening all day, and yesterday.

FrauEnglischLehrerin · 13/01/2014 09:56

I was just taken to the app store when I clicked on this thread and that's happened to me quite a few times in the last week or so. It wasn't Candy Crush but another game.

The porn redirects were to something called Erotic Tube. I haven't had another of those since I posted last week.

ChaircatMiaow · 13/01/2014 11:07

I have been having the same issue for the past few days whereby I am being redirected to the App Store for candy crush or some similar game while reading Mumsnet.

Tres annoying.

ColetteTech · 13/01/2014 17:29

FrauEnglischLehrerin and Fark - is this the Ali Express redirect again? Sorry about this, it keeps slipping through the net somehow. How recently has this happened to you both?

We'll get those ads that are automatically opening the app store blocked too, thanks for reporting.

Colette

Jacksmania · 14/01/2014 02:51

No redirecting to App Store happening today, yay Tech Thanks.

FrauEnglischLehrerin · 14/01/2014 11:38

App store redirect just happened again, to a game called Empire: Four Kingdoms.

The porn redirect has not happened again since last week.

PinkLemons · 15/01/2014 07:24

It hasn't happened in the last few days to me. Thanks mnhq!
