Has my Mumsnet been hacked??

Am on my ipad and Mumsnet Talk keeps being redirected to some website selling s€x toys. Seriously annoying! What do I do?

Mine too - both on mobile and iPad. REALLY annoying!

rpitchfo · 30/12/2013 19:50

it's probably your devices rather than mumsnet.

JulieJingleBellsMumsnet · 30/12/2013 19:53

Oh dear! Shock

Is it happening when you're scrolling over an ad or clicking something, or is it just random?

FutureDreamer · 30/12/2013 19:56

Completely random and as I say on two devices.

FutureDreamer · 30/12/2013 19:57

And it's not a website that I've ever visited before.

CajaDeLaMemoria · 30/12/2013 19:58

I think it's ad related.

It doesn't happen with a good ad blocker turned on, but does with the ad blocker disabled.

No idea what ad is to blame, though.

DXBMermaid · 30/12/2013 20:06

It happens when changing the page, ie going back to active topics or going to the next page in a thread.

It's a website that I've never visited and that I am not interested in. Being a sleep deprived first time Mum vibrators are the last thing on my mind. Glad to see I am not the only one though!

A game ap at all? The more info we have the easier it will be to find the culprit.

It may be a good idea to do a malware/virus search on your devices, just to make sure they are OK.

Climbingthewalls12 · 30/12/2013 20:07

Its happened to mine and I have good anti-virus software that has recently completed a scan, finding nothing.

DXBMermaid · 30/12/2013 20:08

Oh god, that sounds very techy! How? Where? Am using a ipad.

OP posts:
DXBMermaid · 30/12/2013 20:10

It only happens when on Mumsnet. Looked a various other websites as I was looking for flights and they didn't redirect me thankfully.

DXBmermaid are you in DXB? I'm near by so maybe location based? Although a sex toy web site wouldn't usually get through my ISPs content filter

DXBMermaid · 30/12/2013 20:24

I am future

Maybe it location related, but thought these types of sites were banned. Have just seen the website as an ad banner, Ali Express from the US? They sell other things too as the add shows a phone. Never clicked on it, never visited it, never used it. Xmas Hmm

OP posts:
ChinngisKhan · 31/12/2013 02:42

I'm having this problem as well, it shows as an Ad Banner at the bottom of my screen, but redirects without clicking on it - and takes me to the sex toy page. Most annoying!

crabb · 31/12/2013 02:53

Just happened to me, but I think I accidentally leant on ad link at bottom of screen: aliexpress is the name if the site? Certainly sex toys.

Hi, in Dubai too and it keeps happening. On ipad. Help HQ!

Cerisier · 31/12/2013 03:11

On Ipad in Singapore and no problem here. Sounds location specific, how very odd.

arfishy · 31/12/2013 03:11

I've just tested here on my ipad in Australia and it seems fine for me - both mobile site, full site and also on my Mac. I get an Australian ad for the WSPCA.

ChinngisKhan · 31/12/2013 04:00

In Australia atm, and is definitely happening to me!

arfishy · 31/12/2013 04:02

Have you bought any personal massagers recently Chinn?

ChinngisKhan · 31/12/2013 04:04

Shock no!

I've just tried again on my iPad to see if I'm now affected (afflicted?) in the same way as Chinn, and it's definitely not happening on mine.

I'm on IOS 7.0.4 and have restrictions turned on. I also use OpenDNS to block this sort of site, but usually I would see a message saying a site has been blocked if a redirect had been attempted.

I'm still seeing the WSPCA ad, which I've also clicked and it takes me through to the legit site, not anywhere dodgy.

Happened once on my iPad - which kind of scared me, as it is my work iPad. They may wonder what I am doing!
