HemmingGate: To ban or not to ban, that is the question MNHQ

CarpeVinum · 30/12/2013 17:46

Some of us would like to know if a certain politico will be banned, proper.

No rush.

We know you have a lot on your plate with ... stuff.

(I probably got two quotes mixed up in subject line. Don't panic! It's me not you. Am philistine. Italy is wasted on me. Not keen on art, prefer shopping.)

MadameDefarge · 03/01/2014 03:19

eh? what? am up with an abcessed tooth!

LostInWales · 03/01/2014 07:50

Oh no Madame that sounds horrible. Hope you got some more sleep.

That Telegraph comments section isn't good for the blood pressure is it? I feel a never before felt compulsion to say that I am in no way a man hater. I am not keen, on the other hand, of people who use their position to break the law and then down play it and get away with it. Also not very fond of people who use threats toward posters on the internet to win arguments. Hope that's cleared that up.

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 03/01/2014 08:40

Morning ladies! :)

CarpeVinum · 03/01/2014 09:33

Morning all.

Man Hater number 56 reporting for duty.

Please don't tell the man I have loved for 18 years, and the light of my life, my son, that I am not keen on them really becasue....Penis!

I always think that people who say menzhaterz! are the ones who have been rejected a lot. In other words, dear sir, it's not us, it's you.

Oh hell, he's another forced adoption nut- a lay adviser!

Theoldhag · 03/01/2014 10:04

Jeepers! I have a couple of weeks away from mn to scoff Cake and drink Gin.....come back and you luffly lot have taken on the world!!!! Well done me hearties for standing up to that twirkish behaving bully JH. That man really needs to GET a fucking grip, grow a vagina (balls are squishy fragile things) and fucking apologise for his behaviour like any other misbehaving child (that is what he is acting like, my children have better manners than that man). What a tedious self serving pricking behaviour, bullies like him need knocking down a peg or two. Outing sensitive private information indeed.......what a cuntish thing to do.

Well done unmn hugz to all, you rock!!!

Theoldhag · 03/01/2014 10:06

And yes road that 'naughty step' thing is a pathetic attempt to down play his actions. Gggrrrrrrr

Theoldhag · 03/01/2014 10:10

Angry ffs I am actually feeling my blood boil with regards to this 'mans' behaviour.

Spero · 03/01/2014 10:23

Sorry for potential thread hijack. I have already posted this on my In the News Thread - a number of people have expressed interest in writing to their MP. FWIW here is the letter I am going to send Duncan Hames, feel free to copy or use any part of it if it is helpful.

Dear Mr Hames.

Further to my previous emails you may be aware that the activities of Mr John Hemming on the mumsnet forum have attracted considerable media interest in the first week of January 2014.

He has been suspended from the site following his attempt to reveal the identities of a number of women who post there. I was one of those women. He chose to name me in his blog and I have now been named in the national press.

The media reporting of his behaviour has concentrated on the fact that he revealed on line the name of the mother in the 'forced Caesarean' case and that he was posting while drunk.

That is behaviour which alarms me from an elected politician, posting on an internet forum in his own name. However, my concerns about Mr Hemming's behaviour are much more serious than this. It was not simply the mother's name he revealed on line but the name of her baby; this child was the subject of a reporting restrictions order in the High Court which said she should not be named. Mr Hemming claims publication of her name was 'inadvertent' but I note he has expressed no remorse and made no apology for putting a vulnerable child potentially at risk of identification.

But my concerns about Mr Hemming are not limited to this one incident, serious though I think it is.

For a number of years now Mr Hemming has been a self professed 'crusader' against injustice in the family law system. On mumsnet and elsewhere he repeatedly asserts that up to 1,000 children a year are 'needlessly' adopted and are removed from loving homes so that Local Authorities can meet their 'adoption targets'. He continually asserts that the system is 'corrupt' and that professionals working within it collude to remove children and will tell lies to achieve this end. He advises people to leave the country rather than deal with Children's Services. He has close campaigning links with a number of very worrying individuals such as Ian Joseph whose recommendations include thinking very carefully before reporting even the sexual abuse of your child. He has never provided any evidence to support the very serious allegations he makes.

If any of this is true, it is shocking and I need to know why it is not being investigated at the highest level. If however, as I suspect, none of this is true then I am horrified that Mr Hemming is allowed to continue in this vein as a serving MP, using his position to give his 'advice' extra credibility.

I have been contacted directly by women who received 'advice' from Mr Hemming not to co-operate with Children's Services. They now very much regret following that advice.

As your constituent, I would like to know what the position of the Liberal Democrats is regarding a politician who campaigns in this way, under your banner.

CarpeVinum · 03/01/2014 10:24

grow a vagina (balls are squishy fragile things)

Thank you for providing my new fave expression ever Grin

Spero

I hope squillions of mumsnetters cut and paste that, make some edits to personalise and then send it to their MP.

Each tiny "chip away" makes the Big Fat Rock smaller and more quashable.

And it's important. This is what I wrote on the restirred forum that has been giving the sysnopsis so many hits. I mean every single word of it.

There will come a time when it is too late to even try.

Might as well have a go while there is a still chance.

....

Other poster to me....You've got the measure of John Hemming

My reply..

I wish I hadn't. All my illusions about the British political class being held in check by a very beady eyed Court of Public Opinion are lying in smithereens at my feet. Just cos I clicked that thread on mumsnet and joined in the debate.

When I left Britain for Thailand (cos at only 21 years old I just couldn't face another round of recession after getting through the 80s by the skin of my teeth) John Major was PM.

A month after John Smith became leader of the opposition Black May happened right outside my front door. And then there are the couple of decades or so of watching buffons and the entirely self interested slimeballs treating Italy like a piggy bank with which to sustain their lust for self indulgence and self importance.

I am not saying John Hemming is an fetal Bettino Craxi, let alone an embryonic Suchinda Kraprayoon. But he may represent the nearing of The Tipping Point where the public feeling impotent in the face of a "just plain old wrong'un" elected offical gets replaced with actually being impotent. Cos it's just too late to try and place limits on them.

I believe there is a point where "there is nothing we can do to stop them" becomes fact rather than sensation. And, I think perhaps the rest of them, (and the future them), look at how people like Hemming lower standards of conduct and get away with it ... and treat it as a green light in a race to the bottom.

Which is why I have gone all "dog with bone" over this. I know how much worse things can be in the political classes outside of Britian. Not at all keen on somebody like him paving the road to similarly entrenched rock bottom standards back home. I just hope I haven't woken up to reality at home too late.

Am kicking myself for relying on memory rather than keeping up in a meaningful way.

Spero · 03/01/2014 10:36

Well said Carpe.

and I will say it again - it is the involvement of you and Lake and others who can't be dismissed as 'stooges of the system' that have tipped this into something actually happening.

so thank you again, very, very, much.

CarpeVinum · 03/01/2014 10:50

I am more inclined to say the thanks go to Big Pointy Alps and CrackItalianLawyerTeam myself. Grin

More seriously..

I have pretty much just been a freebie rent-a-gob becuase I could, due to geography and aquaintence.

The real work has been going on behind the scenes. By people with something to lose in the context of a person who appears quite happy to make them lose it if they cross him even slightly.

So I will take those thanks and hand them over where they belong. To the many people in my inbox. Who have gone well over and above the call of duty.

It has hurt my soul to be in contact with so very many MNErs who are justifiably leery or scared of posting publically. This is not the Britian I remember, this is not the Britian I want to send my son to for Higher Education in just five years time. I feel like "home" just massively changed in front of me, and I don't know what it is anymore.

Serves me right for not keeping up. Being gobby on this matter is my penance.

Spero · 03/01/2014 10:55

Thanks theoldhag. It is better to light a candle than curse the darkness!

Sorry you feel so bleak Carpe. He does seem to be in a minority. I just remain baffled why he is left alone to cause so much damage.

CarpeVinum · 03/01/2014 11:01

Bcuase he is a convient, self concocted trail blazer. To see just how much flex there is in the Court of Public Opion in terms of demanding action.

I am not wholly bleak. I hold your name dear, if you catch my drift.

Until we reach next Christmas with nothing to show for it, I am going to keep on going with an expectation that it is not too late and decline can be stopped, if not actually turned around.
