30 days only - new trial topic alert!

Hello, hello

Following on from this thread, we've been having a think about a new, more-serious-than-Chat topic in which threads would automatically go pffft after 30 days.

The simplest thing we feel would be a new topic called '30 days only' with with a note at the top explaining that it's (broadly speaking) a more serious option than chat for any threads which you'd rather didn't stick around for too long.

As you know, we don't really see ourselves as topic monitors, as going off-topic isn't against our Talk Guidelines. So it isn't our plan to 'police' threads in this area to ensure that they're sufficiently serious and/or on-topic, it's more of a "nudge" and no one will get into trouble for posting in the wrong place unless of course it's a deliberate attempt to derail (see my post here by way of further explanation.

We'll give this a go and see how we get on with it. As ever we are open to further thoughts/ refinements/ general tinkering about.

Many thanks.

Oh no! This thread as moved onto banter between people who know each other!!!!

Do you think Justine is going to report the thread to HQ?

::head explodes at paradox and rip in space time continuum::

PatoBanton · 07/10/2013 10:01

Its all gone horribly wrong.

TooTabooToBoo · 07/10/2013 10:22

So, having missed ALL of the drama due to MNing time being very limited these days, can I clarify a few points!

1 . _Chat isn't for chatting

2 . A new topic is needed for chatting about serious stuff, that isn't quite serious enough for OTBT but is far too serious for _Chat

3 . The PO are upset about serious threads in _Chat getting derailed, so why not use the appropriate topic?

4 . You're not allowed to recognise anybody or you're a bully

5 . Americanisms are Bad babyshowers rule

If I missed anything please let me know. Once it is all straight in my head I can then understand what the purpose of the new topic is, how to use correctly and whether I will ever have cause to use it.

Bloody baby getting in my way of spending hours time on t'internet Angry

Oh insert various winks n shit in my last message, otherwise it scans rather aggressively, which wasn'u my intention.

Grin Wink

and so on..

TEErickOrTEEreat · 07/10/2013 10:51

You've got it TTTB.

TooTabooToBOOOOO · 07/10/2013 13:18

Do I get an award? Grin

So, taking all that into account, I still don't really understand it, use OTBT or state clearly in OP that the thread isn't to be derailed maybe? but MNHQ are on the ball it seems so no need for me to lose sleep.
