Https crossed out when I try to log in on my laptop.

I usually use mums net on my laptop. Today I have gone to the login page but noticed that the https is crossed out in red (am using Google Chrome).

I have googled this and am advised not to enter my password.

It also suggests the ssl cert may have expired whatever that is.
Am I doomed never to login on my laptop ever again?
Why is it doing this and is there a safe way to log in please?

Hi, that shouldn't happen. It may be something about the "chain of trust" on your laptop for the certificate, or it might have been a momentary glitch. If you go directly to

www.mumsnet.com/session/login?target=%2FTalk

using this link do you see the normally or is it red and crossed out?

TheRealHousewifeOfSomewhere · 17/09/2013 17:00

Yes that has the same red cross through it.

chrome is a shit for doing this, sometimes i can't get on twitter through chrome, or the county council website Angry - keep trying, it will be having a tantrum

i hate chrome

There's an addon for Firefox and Chrome called HTTPS Everywhere which forces SSL when available, so you could try that. It's from the Electronic Frontier Foundation.

The chain of trust sounds like something from Meet the Fokkers.

RippingYarns · 17/09/2013 17:51

thanks Nicholas, will try that later

RowanMumsnet · 18/09/2013 09:33

Thanks Nicholas

Any improvement, OP?

TheRealHousewifeOfSomewhere · 18/09/2013 23:50

I have not had a chance to get on the laptop this evening to try (am on my phone). Will hopefully get on it tomorrow evening and have a try and see what Nicholas has suggested

Am hoping it works cos it takes forever to type anythingwwith the phone? Its driving me mad.
