Secret Location on Mumsnet

Does Mumsnet really have a secret area where only those who have happened to be in the right place at the right time know about? I have just seen a load of allusions to a new thread in a secret place and it is the first I have heard about it!

It's not secret, it's not indexed on Google, but it's actually no more private than the rest of MN.

Is this an Off The Beaten Track thread?

It isn't a private place. All posts can still be seen and anyone can join in if they are a member of MN, they just don't come up on Google searches.

You don't need to be a member of MN to read posts in OTBT, but you have to be to post (like all the topics)

I thought so too so I just checked. I logged out and could still read it. the checked the bumpf at the top of the OTBT threads. Go have a look.

There is a topic called "OTBT" which I think OP is referring to.But it isn't secret, not really. It's listed with all the other topics, and you don't have to be a member of MN to read it.

It doesn't come up in active convos.

But its not very secret really.

Glad OTBT exists. I didn't know about it before but it is fab to know there is somewhere you can post freely without Google bringing your personal life to the number one spot.

So...the only thing different about OTBT is:

Not on Google.
30 day deletion.
Not in Active.

Other than that, it's not private.

Somewhere that the thread doesn't come up on Google or Active conversations and disappears very quickly everlong I think. But how do you ever get to know about it except for threads like this?

You can post about whatever you like in otbt. Its quite easy to find via the usual list of Topics.
