Blue dot in the PM envelope

Dear MNHQ

Is the blue dot in the PM envelope here to stay? It doesn't catch the eye like the red one did & would be quite easy to miss. Sorry to moan ...

Ooooh, I haven't had a blue dot yet (no PMs recently Sad). But I did notice the little envelope has changed from a grey envelope to a sort-of outline of an envelope. Does this mean that a new PM shows up differently?

FruOla · 11/07/2013 19:44

Well, that was interesting Hec! Thank you.

But I can now understand why Cats might find it hard to see, particularly if she, and others, are MNing from smartphones/devices though.

CatsAndTheirPizza · 11/07/2013 20:15

I think it is probably OK on a tablet (they kept the same format last time). On a pc it just doesn't catch your eye in the same way that the red one did.

OK, I'm on a PC too. Hec sent me a PM, which I did see - but I totally agree with you Cats, that the yellow and red is more obvious than the yellow and blue.

Oh hell .... Tech's been fiddling again, hasn't he?

RowanMumsnet · 11/07/2013 21:56

Hello

Thanks for flagging this one - I'm not sure what the story is but we'll look into it.

CatsAndTheirPizza · 11/07/2013 22:33

Thank you Smile

FruOla I don't think my envelope was even yellow, it was a not-very-eye-catching colour (can't remember and don't have one at the moment).

Cats, I've just sent you a PM, so you can have another look at it!!

CatsAndTheirPizza · 11/07/2013 23:05

Thank you - just replied. Not very eye-catching ...

Morning. And yes, the red dot has been changed to a blue dot, just to make it all look nicer and more "designed"

We reckon that, once we've all got used to it, it shouldn't make that much difference, especially as you can get email alerts about new PMs aswell.

But we should have let you know this change was happening, rather than leave you to find out for yourselves. We're sorry about that. Blush And we'll try not to do it again

mistlethrush · 12/07/2013 10:06

Helen, much as I appreciate the colour coordination point, isn't the point about the dot in the envelope to make it obvious that you've got a message?

Whilst I sometimes have my email open so that I get the message popping up saying I've got a message, I often don't - then I have to rely upon the dot which is now so colour coordinated that its very easy to miss.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 12/07/2013 10:12

Humph! It's silly. Bring back the red one.

Please!

pictish · 12/07/2013 10:16

The red dot was visible, and that was the point.

Change for the sake of it, and not for the better.

MarshaBrady · 12/07/2013 10:17

Red one was much better.

HelenMumsnet · 12/07/2013 10:19

We hear what you're saying but we'd like to let the blue dot "settle in" for a bit.

We can def look at making it a more visible blue, though...

TheFallenNinja · 12/07/2013 10:19

Marking my place on bluedotgate

pictish · 12/07/2013 10:21

Ot you could just leave it red?

mistlethrush · 12/07/2013 10:22

Helen - if its a 'more visible' blue, it won't go with the colour scheme as well. Red is nicely related to the purple and the blue after all - because if you didn't have the red you wouldn't have the purple...

ExitPursuedByABear · 12/07/2013 10:25

I get so few PMs it is of little relevance to me.

pictish · 12/07/2013 10:27

I don't get many either, but if I do get one, I want to know it's there. Blue schmoo.

CarpeVinum · 12/07/2013 10:31

I like it.

Cos PMs are like dodo eggs in my world.

I can pretend I just haven't seen the reams of private corresspondance rather than the fact it's always empty.

Go Blue Dot go !

Plus, Pale Blue Dot... I feel like it puts lack of PMs into perspective in the grand scheme ofmthings.

But...an accent colour that contrasted, like say...red, would actually be far more effective in terms of flagging up new mail for people that are evidently far more likeable do get messages.

Tee2072 · 12/07/2013 10:32

::pours Helen a gin::

Perhaps electric blue?

CarpeVinum · 12/07/2013 10:33

Or flashing.

You can colour co-ordinate if movement v static is used to provide the attention grab of contrast.

CarpeVinum · 12/07/2013 10:34

Or sparkling, glittery envelope when there is new content ?

BeetleBugBaby · 12/07/2013 10:36

fgs stop mucking about with things mnhq!

HelenMumsnet · 12/07/2013 10:36

@CarpeVinum

Or sparkling, glittery envelope when there is new content ?

Arf at glittery.
