No, I don't want a steam mop thank you!

Just when we'd got rid of the Boots forum and Kate gurning Thornton, I'm now being taunted on the Good Housekeeping topic by a flashing dropdown (or whatever the correct adspeak word is) for steam cleaners. I know MNHQ have to pay the rent but is there any way I can hide it?

Well - is there??

Might get a response then ( on phone posted too soon )

Adblocker? I don't get any drop down ads, they do versions for Opera/android/Firefox etc as well as Chrome.

Pancakeflipper · 27/05/2013 16:07

I don't see these ads and I want a steam mop.

MeiMeiMeiMei · 27/05/2013 16:12

I asked politely, Jen - see my OP.

Thank you, hellhasnofury, will check it out.

My steam mop has revolutionised my life. No sarcasm at all. I adore it!

LackaDAISYcal · 28/05/2013 19:04

It's not just a wee ad though is it, it's the full height of the screen either side of the text, and it moves and is bloody irritating.

It looks like fecking netmums areound here! In fact tickers would be less distracting Hmm

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 28/05/2013 19:34

I get no ads at all on here, do you have an ad blocker installed?

Tee2072 · 28/05/2013 19:38

That was politely? We have different definitions of the word.

AdBlock. Use it. Stop whinging.

MeiMeiMeiMei · 28/05/2013 20:31

Tee2072 I know you're always looking for a fight but you're wasting your time here. Go and play somewhere else.

Hmm
Mintyy · 28/05/2013 21:14

Adblock does the job perfectly.

When I look at Mumsnet on our pc (rather than my laptop where I have Adblock) I am a little bit shocked, tbh! All that moving and flashing.

lougle · 28/05/2013 21:18

You're very 'me me me me', MeiMeiMeiMei....

ShowOfHands · 28/05/2013 21:21

I want a steam mop. I have no ads.

This is all most unfair.

Tee, I'll fight you if you want, you two-headed, scale-arsed harpy. Grin

Tee2072 · 29/05/2013 06:53

Sorry I went to bed. Maybe next time showy. Grin

I honestly have no idea what the OP is referring to. I only vaguely recognise the user name, do if she and I had a fight, it must have been very very boring.

RebeccaMumsnet · 29/05/2013 18:25

Hi Mei,

Did you mean to be so rude? Grin

Does any one else have a problem with this?

TheFallenNinja · 29/05/2013 18:34

Ads = free site
No ads = pay site.

You gets what you pay for.

lougle · 29/05/2013 18:49

I haven't had ads down the side since ...ooh 22nd April when I emailed MNHQ to say I wasn't too fond of the huge boots ad for the 'feelgood forum' and they politely mailed back to say 'sorry..but we have to do this.'

Most odd.

Willabywallaby · 31/05/2013 07:46

I've come on this section just to start a thread about this. It drives me up the wall in netmums, and am really unimpressed to see it here.

I'm a technophobe, DH sets up the computers and I CBA to install adblocker. Please stop them MNHQ.

Willabywallaby · 31/05/2013 07:49

Aha! is it just in good housekeeping? I looked on a thread about smelly armpits. Obviously I need to stay off that section, shame...

IdealHomeHouseBeautifulLivinge · 31/05/2013 08:30

MeiMei here Smile
Ads - fine. Pay bills for much loved site.
Flashing ads/drop downs - not fine, as discussed on annoying Boots ad thread. Distracting and spoil forum.

lougle · 31/05/2013 17:23

They may 'spoil the forum' but if MNHQ need income to run the forum, then what else are they to do? Unless you want to pay, of course...

BIWI · 31/05/2013 17:26

I really don't object to Mumsnet taking ads - it pays for their gin salaries and keeps the site free for us. But I HATE, HATE, HATE those bloody awful ads that are down each side of the screen.

Do we have to have those?

LackaDAISYcal · 31/05/2013 19:04

My main issue is that it is obtrusive and annoying. No objection to the side bar ads and the top banner etc, just not taking up the whole of the either side of the screen. Irritating.

And for the first time ever I have downloaded an ad blocker, which is a shame, as I quite like ads and often click on them!
