Do you fancy representing Mumsnet at the G8 Summit in June?

Hello,

We have an opportunity to send an MNer to the G8 Summit in Enniskillen, Northern Ireland. The G8 meeting forms part of the UK's current Presidency of the G8, and is an opportunity for leading heads of government to get together to discuss major international issues.

The trip would be part of a project associated with the IF Campaign, and they're looking particularly for someone with an interest in world hunger. You'd be asked to report back as events unfold via a thread on Active Conversations, and also possibly speak to the press while you're there.

You would need to be available between June 16 and June 18, and willing to travel and stay overnight (unless you're very local); travel and accommodation expenses will be covered.

So if you're interested in international issues, and particularly the objectives of the IF campaign, do please post here to indicate your interest. We need to have a name by lunchtime on Tuesday May 21, so time is of the essence!

Thanks,
MNHQ

Me please. Before I had the girls I ran an agency doing the advertising/fundraising for War on Want, Greenpeace, Amnesty etc. I now write a bog about surviving life with twins (likepeasinapod.com). I support a centre in Peru for disabled children, financially, and also with visits. I am a card carrying Labour activist and school trustee.

I would LOVE to represent my fellow Mumsnetters

FuckThisShit · 21/05/2013 11:02

Another vote for TSC from me. She has done some fantastic work in recent months and is full of the most wonderful passion. She would be absolutely brilliant.

GetOrfMoiLand · 21/05/2013 11:05

Good luck all those who have their hat in the ring.

I must say picking someone from a hat is probably not what I would do, there are a couple of really worthy candidates on here who are regular MNers, I would much prefer it went to someone who was part of this community and not someone who has just appeared out of lurkerdom for this reason, tbh.

But anyway, I hope it goes well for the person who gets it.

GetOrfMoiLand · 21/05/2013 11:06

Sinking you are someone else on this thread to make me feel ashamed Grin

RowanMumsnet · 21/05/2013 11:07

Hello hello

Thanks so much for all of these - what a fearsome bunch you are (in a good way)

We'll be back soon with a shiny envelope

EleanorHandbasket · 21/05/2013 11:14

My suspenders!

liger · 21/05/2013 11:16

Oh I hope that being a lurker doesn't exclude someone from beige a part of this community? Mumsnet has played an important part of my
mothering experience over the last eight years, it's just that my character is not one for the cut and thrust of the boards on a regular basis. Perhaps if I don't get to the G8 I'll start advocating on behalf lurkers?

LadyBeagleEyes · 21/05/2013 11:17

I also don't think picking the name out of a hat is a great idea, unless you check that it is someone who has been a member of Mn for a while.

liger · 21/05/2013 11:18

Being not beige! I previewed that post too. Gah!

Good luck everyone.

GetOrfMoiLand · 21/05/2013 11:19

I meant no offence liger. It's just that I think having someone who is a regular poster would be more valuable to others in that they would post about their experience, if you are a natural lurker you probably wouldn't post very much about it anyway and pass details on to educate others.

GetOrfMoiLand · 21/05/2013 11:20

Lol at beige. Grin

I hope though now that you have posted you will continue Smile if you got this gig you would HAVE to start a thread about it as well

MmeLindor · 21/05/2013 11:24

Thanks, Bewitched, for nominating me, and those who have suggested that I nominate myself.

I was lucky enough to be sent to Kenya last year to blog for Mumsnet, but that was about family planning and reproductive rights, not about food hunger, and I don't feel qualified to really do this justice.

Added to that, I flew to Nairobi on DH's birthday last year, and this is over the same weekend, so you would likely be responsible for him LTB. :)

Can't you send two people? There are some great people who have the international experience, but I also think that someone like TSC who is highlighting the issue here in UK would be fantastic.

It upsets me greatly to hear that people are going without food for EIGHT DAYS cause they can't afford to eat. That is appalling.

Badvoc · 21/05/2013 11:24

God, is love to do this!
Don't know anywhere near enough about it sadly :(

No offence taken GetOrf. I was assuming MNHQ would check our history of posting as part of the vetting process and the lurking might exclude me. The thing is this is a subject I am passionate about so I would be quite happy to post about it - I think. Usually on the boards someone has already responded with much more eloquence and wit and I have no urge to add my echo to the chorus!

GetOrfMoiLand · 21/05/2013 11:28

Shame it can't be a couple of people isn't it.

MmeLindor · 21/05/2013 11:29

TSC
I agree. If I were to decide based on persons I like, I would choose you cause you are luffly.

GetOrfMoiLand · 21/05/2013 11:30

No, I doubt that MNHQ would exclude, I have read loads of times that they want to encourage lurkers to post and this would be an opportunity.

The fact that someone else has posted something articulate already shouldn't stop you! Bloody hell if I thought that I would never have posted my pointless witherings at all! Get stuck in is the best way. Grin
