Do you fancy representing Mumsnet at the G8 Summit in June?

Hello,

We have an opportunity to send an MNer to the G8 Summit in Enniskillen, Northern Ireland. The G8 meeting forms part of the UK's current Presidency of the G8, and is an opportunity for leading heads of government to get together to discuss major international issues.

The trip would be part of a project associated with the IF Campaign, and they're looking particularly for someone with an interest in world hunger. You'd be asked to report back as events unfold via a thread on Active Conversations, and also possibly speak to the press while you're there.

You would need to be available between June 16 and June 18, and willing to travel and stay overnight (unless you're very local); travel and accommodation expenses will be covered.

So if you're interested in international issues, and particularly the objectives of the IF campaign, do please post here to indicate your interest. We need to have a name by lunchtime on Tuesday May 21, so time is of the essence!

Thanks,
MNHQ

I'm very much a lurker so I almost wonder if that disqualifies me automatically? I would be very interested in going to the G8 and to feedback to Mumsnetters on this issue.

I would be particularly interested in how mothers in the poorest communities around the world can be supported in bringing about an end to the ongoing chronic hunger, that limits the lives and chances of individuals before they are even born, especially as numerous studies
show that mothers within the household often do the most to protect the nutritional status of their children during a hunger crisis. As mothers we can all relate to this, but I wonder if the G8 leaders consider this very often as they discuss the Economic constructs of
men in suits?

I'm a little bit nervous about this coming across as one of those opening monologues that the contestants do on The Apptentice which always make me feel uncomfortable in my own skin just watching! I do have relevant experience and I think I could do a good job but would rather not spell it all out here - please, thank you.

I just love that mumsnet are going to send a poster to this. Good luck to everyone who wants to go :) if we're doing votes I vote for someone who has at least lurked if not posted for a long time so that they can be a true representation of mumsnet.

As in, I don't think lack of posting should disqualify anyone but it would be a shame if the person picked had signed up just because of this and hadn't used Tue boards at all (can we devise a real/fake lurker quiz? :o)

TSC is the project you have organised taking place in London? If you are in need of volunteers, don't hesistate to give me a pm.

Sounds a fantastic and worthwhile opportunity, however I know I would be next to useless! If it was about dogs then I'm your woman.

In the meantime good luck all.

Ah, so Rowan was Mitmoo? Coowell!

I'd like to nominate Mme Lindor, who is conspicuous by her absence.

And can I budge in on the nice(ish) but useless bench please Smile

So thats why Mitmoo is a forbidden topic, I have always wandered!

I only came on here to see if TSC had put herself forward.

MNHQ - seriously she gets stuck in to this kind of stuff and is dead clever like.

I may as well put myself out there! I travelled to Liberia with Save The Children in December prior to the launch of Enough Food IF campaign. I am a health campaigner and a children's nurse, and am hoping to embark on a Tropical Disease course in September. The G8 summit is an amazing opportunity to advocate for the millions of people who go hungry every day. I feel with what I saw in Liberia, this would make it very easy for me to speak openly about it. There is enough food for everyone, but not everyone has enough food. I have also been followed up by various media outlets since my return and am confident and comfortable in front of a camera. Ohh and I have an IF bracelet that I can wear!!

Hello

Thanks very much for all of these. We've got another couple of hours to make a decision so do please keep nominating/indicating who you'd like to see do it.

RowanMumsnet, how are you deciding who gets picked? Is it on the basis of what we've written here or will you be getting in touch to find out more about peeps?

We'll put all the names of those who've indicated an interest and contacted us direct into a hat and pick one out, plus a couple of back-ups.
It's the fairest way I think. Any last entrants please indicate your interest before 11 am today.
Cheers for the interest all.

Seriously,as world hunger is the main issue,TSC must be a contender, she is committed and has insight and energy.

She has my vote.

Another (proper, in case you thought I was joking before) vote here for TSC, she'll be perfect for this.

If you wont pick me, that is.

TunipTheVegedude · 21/05/2013 10:01

I can think of several people who would be fabulous (Mme Lindor for one) but TSC's practical experience would be really useful I think. Hope you pick her!

Noooooo, please don't just pick some one at random in a lottery. Pick the person who has the democratic support of the community here.

Whilst I would love to go, would be happy to represent the community at the G8, my perspective on life and all is not representative of MN.

We need to see the most popular candidate go.

BOF · 21/05/2013 10:13

I vote for thesecondcoming too- I know she's been brilliant at running community campaigns in her area, and she definitely isn't backwards in coming forwards Wink.

Bloody hell TSC. You're not the complete cunt that everyone thinks you are, are you?

Grin

I'd love to do this, but lack the knowledge to do as good a job as some of the others on here.
