Can I ask about trolls?

LadyMountbatten · 21/04/2013 10:38

Not all "ooh they must be flayed alive " I find them highly entertaining most if the time.
I want to ask how you know they are. Are they mostly men or women? Are they site users having a laugh?

Obv some are pervs but others who post rather tragic stories is it just for attention? Or novelists trying out a new story?!

Do you get repeat offenders?

ummm

you won't get any answers because otherwise it'll be a lesson in how to Troll MN successfully

Sorry

Hassled · 21/04/2013 10:41

Interesting questions.
I'd always assumed it was just the same IP addresses of previous offenders coming up, with no way of knowing who/what was at the end of that IP address.

But someone somewhere must have researched what sort of people are more likely to be trolls - whether they're more likely to be male, 40 and living in Leeds or whatever.

LadyMountbatten · 21/04/2013 11:48

I imagine MNHQ in a shadowy green lit room, with one of those see through screens and all the trolls inside leg measurements on it

and Olivia. in black like ANne robinson

All of the above. And more like you wouldn't believe

But the others who have posted are right: we prefer not to give out too many details, partly because that might only give 'em ideas on how to dodge detection better in future and partly because we'd rather not give 'em the oxygen of publicity, iyswim...

LadyMountbatten · 21/04/2013 13:38

can we get an actor in to say their words?

The Secret Service Does Not Comment On Procedure. It's from The West Wing.

HarrietSchulenberg · 21/04/2013 14:09

I quite like some of 'em. Nobe of it's real anyway. Thought the OW's baby one was quite interesting, actually, though amused at the DP's 8 kids.

HarrietSchulenberg · 21/04/2013 14:09

Sorry, "none".

LadyMountbatten · 21/04/2013 14:10

would have made a great ITV drama I thought.

LadyM you should have gone on that thread to slag off her spelling in retrospect Grin

AnAirOfHope · 21/04/2013 14:20

Have you ever reported any to the police?

LadyMountbatten · 21/04/2013 14:22

ANY troll who cant spell. NO MATTER how tragic the story appears.

You see on that thread I was kind. This is what went wrong

OP posts:
Gerrof · 21/04/2013 14:26

Yes lady, don't bloody bother being kind again for a while, try it again in 2016.

Anair I said you lacked empathy on that thread at first, you were bloody right!

AnAirOfHope · 21/04/2013 15:03
Wink
BOF · 21/04/2013 15:05

TypeAndWank and Extended are the same person, and they are a man. I'm pretty sure I know who it is in real life too.

AnAirOfHope · 21/04/2013 15:06

It just shows i spend too much time here. But i always give the benefit of doute cos it might be real!

BIWI · 21/04/2013 15:07

How do you know that, BOF?

SPsYoniTheOneAndOnly · 21/04/2013 15:09

BOF Its PA ain't it? Grin

Gerrof · 21/04/2013 15:11

OOOOH BOF you have an idea who it is in RL?

BOF · 21/04/2013 15:11

Well, it's predicated on it being the same pompous twat who once linked an ebook on here, but if it was (and I do know his writing style, so it's certainly possible), then he's an Oxfordshire-based middle-aged divorcee who fancies himself as a writer and does a bit of am-dram.
