Can I ask about trolls?

Not all "ooh they must be flayed alive " I find them highly entertaining most if the time.
I want to ask how you know they are. Are they mostly men or women? Are they site users having a laugh?

Obv some are pervs but others who post rather tragic stories is it just for attention? Or novelists trying out a new story?!

Do you get repeat offenders?

Bof is extended the 'please help I'm a poor little orphan and I haven't eaten a square meal since 1986 and I have to raise my seven siblings alone and I'm only 14' one?

And how on earth do you know who it is IRL?

I wish someone remembered the anal butt plug troll- I've searched and searched, but can never find it. He said he was a writer and used to wear a prostate massager toy while he worked. I bet that was him too.

Yes, Ehric, that's him. He's definitely a Cinderella sexual fantasist- he often mentions virginity etc.

I knew someone who was a troll (not on here, to my knowledge- on two other forums, though she's probably been on here at some point I should think)

Anyway, I met her on a forum and later met her in real life (before I knew she was a troll). She seemed really nice and normal but actually, as it turned out, she was pretty mentally unwell. She had made up all sorts of stuff about her life, much of it dramatic/traumatic, in order to gain attention and sympathy. None of it was true. Including the name she used when we met in real life.

I later found out some of the (numerous) usernames she'd had on another forum, under which she had written extremely inflammatory, cruel and frankly insane posts.

In a nutshell, this particular troll had huge MH problems and few RL friends. I hated what she'd done but actually felt a little bit sorry for her too. No idea whether this is the typical troll profile though.

That's interesting- how did you find out she was a troll?

Report
AnyFucker · 21/04/2013 16:10

lego...did her name begin with S ?

Report
waterlego6064 · 21/04/2013 16:21

AF No, none of the names she went by began with S. But her actual real name may well do, for all I know! Ultimately, it was impossible to believe anything she said; she had several FB profiles under different names.

BOF A couple of forum users made a connection between her and the multiple usernames on another forum (I don't really know how) and challenged her on it on the forum. She admitted to it (gradually- just some of it at first and then all of it).

And lots of us forum users felt quite stupid because, in retrospect, some of her stories were quite far-fetched (or at least the combination of them was).

I have met people in RL who are very needy and make everything a drama. The Internet must be a dream come true.

Very true Portofino

And thinking back, this troll continued to try to leech sympathy even after her lies were discovered. She did apologise for her trolling but it didn't seem very heartfelt, and she then made it all about her again: 'there is obviously something very wrong with me', 'I only wanted to feel accepted' etc...
