Hello, I'm new on here. I'd like to change my name for Christmas but I just can't work out how to do it. Could some kind person please help? I'm on the mobile site if that makes a difference.
TIA

Go to MyMumsnet - in blue at the top, then My Registration, then type in your new name under Chat nickname, then click the "save" button at the bottom of that bit.

Ta da!

Welcome by the way!

DollySister · 30/11/2012 20:27

Hi Wigeon

Thanks for responding.

I don't have 'my Mumsnet' at the top. I went into 'sections' and selected 'my Mumsnet' from there. It then asked me to log in, even though I am already. Then, after clicking 'log in' I get only a blank screen. Am I doing something wrong?

Are you on the App or the mobile site, Dolly?

TeeHollyandTeeIvy · 30/11/2012 20:29

And you do need to log in again. Sorry meant to say that.

DollySister · 30/11/2012 20:45

Erm... I think I'm on the mobile site Tee but I'm thick completely new to this. It could be an app. I haven't loaded the new one. It's android, if that makes a difference. Have I offended the powers that be in HQ do you think?

OP posts:
TeeHollyandTeeIvy · 30/11/2012 20:51

I doubt it! Do you use a browser, such as Chrome or Firefox, to see it?

TeeHollyandTeeIvy · 30/11/2012 20:56

Ya know what? It's not working from the Mobile Site.

You can select Desktop site and should be able to do it from there.

I'm reporting the thread to HQ so they can look at this!!

DollySister · 30/11/2012 21:01

Thanks Tee. I'll try the desk top site, if that will work from my mobile site :-)

Thank you very much Thanks

Now, to find my way back to the mobile site...

TeeElfOnTeeShelf · 30/11/2012 21:28

Well done Dolly!

DollySistersBrothersFatherXmas · 30/11/2012 21:36

Love your Christmas name, Tee. And I'll bet it didn't take you 97 minutes from start to finish Wink
Now, can I find the mobile site? Or do I prefer this one anyway?

TeeElfOnTeeShelf · 30/11/2012 21:37

If you leave and come back it should ask you if you want the Mobile site.

I think you may have to log out for it to work, though.

DollySistersBrothersFatherXmas · 30/11/2012 21:43

Thanks. Wonder if I'll be here on Jan 6th trying to lose my Christmas name Blush

TeeElfOnTeeShelf · 30/11/2012 21:45

Probably! [bgrin]

Olivia just responded to my report, they have noted the tech issue!

FeatherDownDuvet · 30/11/2012 22:05

Be warned that if you click onto the 'use desktop site' link you may not be able to go back to the mobile version. Last time I tried that so I could namechange my phone wouldn't allow me to go back to the mobile version. It was as if it had remembered I'd clicked on 'desktop' and that was overriding any future preference for the mobile site.

In the end I had to uninstall my browser, losing all my bookmarks, reinstall and start from scratch again. I was unimpressed, but probably my phones fault not MN still bloody annoying though

I was really hoping the long-awaited android App would have a namechange option but it doesn't look like it does, I've just been whinging about it on the app thread I'm very whingy today must be PMT

DollySistersBrothersFatherXmas · 01/12/2012 00:29

Couldn't find the mobile site from desktop. Fortunately I'd already put a short-cut thingy from my phone's home page to Mumsnet mobile site. Just have to hope I don't lose that Grin

TeeElfOnTeeShelf · 01/12/2012 06:10

I think you over reacted there a bit, Feather. If I've had that problem I've simple signed out of MN, turned off the browser completely and gone back in. No deleting and reinstalling needed.

Also, if you use Chrome, it keeps your bookmarks across all devices so you wouldn't lose them if you did need to delete the browser for some reason.

FeatherDownDuvet · 01/12/2012 08:41

Err yeah, thanks for that Tee Hmm

I did close down my browser completely and go back in thanks, it didn't work. Surely that is the first thing every idiot would do? Within my browser, not Chrome, I then cleared my history and downloads. This didn't help. Then within the privacy section I cleared the password history and the cookies, again this still didn't work.

Then within my phone settings, for good measure, I cleared the RAM memory.

I restarted my phone again and still I could only get onto the desktop version of the mobile site. Then I had no option left but to uninstall and reinstall the browser. I was finally back onto the MN mobile site but I had lost all my bookmarks.

HelenMumsnet · 01/12/2012 19:49

First of all, sorry, DollySister, that no one from HQ posted in answer to your OP. That was most unobliging of us - but glad that you got the help from Tee instead Blush

Feather, when you click 'show desktop site' from the mobile version, it should display: "Yes - this time", ''Yes-always" and "No-stay here".

Sounds as though you clicked ''Yes-always". Which kinda explains what happened, although we can see it doesn't make it less annoying in your case!

TeeElfOnTeeShelf · 02/12/2012 13:44

Gee, sorry I tried to help Feather. Not everyone knows that you can manually shut down apps on phones/tablets.
