Yy, we know it's been a long time coming but we finally have the free to download Mumsnet Talk Android app

If you want to find out more about getting MN on your mobile device, we have a plethora of info for you here including some very exciting news about the soon-to-be-released all being well shiny new Apple app.

And we even have an easy to scan and download QR code to get the mobile version on your phone - what more could you want?
Disclaimer: That was a rhetorical question Grin

So please do download and enjoy, as ever, feedback is always welcome.

I like the general layout but biggest ishoo for me is that I have active convos set at 100 threads but app is displaying nowhere near that many. Would also like to be able to go to the root of a topic grin thread title.

stigofthelump · 28/11/2012 08:03

love the smilies Grin Thanks so easySmile Wine
but as has been mentioned countless times I miss the post highlighting Confused Sad

SilveryMoon · 28/11/2012 08:11

I'm more than happy with the mobile site but will def have a go

AnyFuckingDude · 28/11/2012 08:31

I can't see what I am typing!

HappyTurquoise · 28/11/2012 08:34

Still finding my way around. Not neo.g able to see the OP of a thread is disastrous. I don't see why they have to be kept separate. For that reason o will stick with the mobile. app.

Cannot see what I am typing here.

maxmissie · 28/11/2012 09:13

glad there is now an app for android but don't like:

  • not being able to flip to horizontal, I can hold my phone and type more easily that way
  • having to go out of a thread back to the home page to then get back into active combos, threads I'm watching etc
  • not being able to view thread whilst typing a post
  • original poster not being highlighted throughout threads.

think I will be sticking to mobile site for now as it does all the things I've listed above! can't at the mo see what the advantage is of the app over the mobile site.

notcitrus · 28/11/2012 09:22

Don't want to sound ungrateful but what advantages is the app supposed to have over the mobile site?
Tried last night and it was painfully slow whereas the site wasn't, all the threads are backwards, and none of my settings seem to be adhered to, loads of threads and topics I hide came up in Active, the OP and my posts werent coloured, etc. And didn't get many threads or postal coming up at a time. Only advantage seemed to be bigger icons and text which isn't an issue for me.

trikken · 28/11/2012 09:37

I love itSmile

HappyTurquoise · 28/11/2012 09:50

Have now found that the OP is at the bottom of each thread, and can be easily brought to the top by using the 'flip' option.

I'm still typing blind, though, and have no preview option that I can see.

trikken · 28/11/2012 09:52

Having had a play, it does need a 'top' and 'bottom' button. and agree with not being able to see what you are typing, that is annoying.

WandaDoff · 28/11/2012 11:11

I don't like the fact that I can't see what I'm typing.

I've managed to put at least one typo in every post I've made pneumonia it so far Hmm

WandaDoff · 28/11/2012 11:12

FFS Sorry.

InSPsFanjoNoOneHearsYouScream · 28/11/2012 11:15

I've just downloaded it and the screen on the active list flickers like mad. think its the ad

BerryLellow · 28/11/2012 14:51

it's a bit confusing, I'm sure I'll get used to it though Smile

denialandpanic · 28/11/2012 16:19

me likeySmile Grin Wink

stealthsquiggle · 28/11/2012 16:25

I did manage to kill the app a few times (and couldn't be bothered to send reports, sorry). I don't have the typing blind problem, though Confused with SwiftKey I can actually see what I am typing better than I can on the mobile site.

(which reminds me, I need to ask someone why SwiftKey suddenly forgot lots of stuff [hint])

msrisotto · 28/11/2012 16:39

It would be good if you could see if there have been new posts in the "threads I'm on" tab. I concur with others re highlighted posts etc

Startail · 28/11/2012 17:31

yes but not for my kindle fire Sad

Yes Trills I know I should have a Nexus, but that's not what I was given.

AnnieLobeseder · 28/11/2012 18:33

Don't like it. Your mobile site is much easier to use. Don't like the Vodaphone ads, don't like how none if my settings (like highlight OP's posts) are available. I'll be sticking to MN mobile.

SuzySheepSmellsNice · 28/11/2012 19:13

I think I like it... Smile

ConfusedPixie · 28/11/2012 20:14

Yay! I felt so left out hen I as told by bloody Apple users "Oh, just do x, y and z on your app!" Never even knew they had one before that :(

JollyJock · 28/11/2012 20:18

I agree with msrisotto re threads I'm on.

In fact, if the app could just be exactly the same as the mobile site I would definitely use it Grin

LemonBreeland · 28/11/2012 20:52

Off to download now. Will report back.

LemonBreeland · 28/11/2012 21:01

Well I quite like it. Annoying to have to flip the threads though.

Also in threads I'm on I can't see if there are any new posts, that is what I look at most on my phone to catch up. Don't want to have to open each one just in case.

LemonBreeland · 28/11/2012 21:05

Just realised others have already said the same things.

I also agree on the highlighted posts. I often just read op posts on very long threads

Posting this from the app and I do like the simplicity of the smilies Smile Wine Thanks
