How do you use mumsnet?

I have a particular routine I follow (I'm sure that means I am anal, but we'll leave that aside for now ):

Open up mumsnet active convos
Search "threads I'm on"
Search current messages for my name (I like to pretend it's because someone might need me but really it's to see how popular I am )
Open up the home page and look at the Tip of the Day (in the vain hope that I might see my tip up there one day - sigh)
*Open all the threads I want to read then settle back with a cuppa

Oh, and I always use the click-throughs to enter other sites eg ebay, amazon etc, like good girl.

Anyone else have a "routine" that they always follow? Or is this about to become an embarrassing revelation?

I only name search occaisionally. I get excited and then usually find it is a dental hygiene thread.... sigh.

{grin] Floss

I'm not on MN so much these days so name searching isn't as fruitful or gratifying (still do it though...)

snafu · 26/02/2006 14:28

I never search for my name.

I usually come one check active convos, then threads i'm on and then sometimes check Chat and Other subjects incase I have missed anything entertaining.

Miaou · 26/02/2006 14:33

So it's only me who goes to the home page to check the tips then? And the comp?

I perhaps wouldn't be so obsessed if it wasn't that one of my tips won me and bagelbird a comp, and they put bagelbird's tip up and not mine

Twas a good one too

Twinkles · 26/02/2006 14:59

Too new to have a routine, only found the site an hour ago! Will defo be returning.

WideWebWitch · 26/02/2006 15:02

Go to active conversations
Read any thread that looks interesting or has lots of posts and post
Set active conversations to = 200, read any others and post
then go to threads I'm on
Then go to topics and looks down thread titles of topics that interest me, i.e. never look at pets but always look at other subjects and quite a few others
Don't search my name, on the v few occasions I have it's been pointless since www is in many web addresses
Rarely go to home page

DumbledoresGirl · 26/02/2006 15:43

Oh I thought I was a bit self obsessed, but I have to say it has never occurred to me to search current messages for my name! Perhaps I shall now!

I have the active convo page stored in my list of websites so I go straight to it without going via the home page.

I then check threads I am on and reply as necessary.

Then looks for new threads in active convos.

Very occasionally, I click on certain topics and see if there is anything interesting there.

RedZuleika · 26/02/2006 15:47

WickedWaterWitch: how do you set active conversations =200??

WideWebWitch · 26/02/2006 15:49

Go to the address bar and where it says

www.mumsnet.com/SearchTalk?lastn=60&o=

change the last bit =60&o= to =200 and you get the last 200 threads
